im goin to the junk yard on sat. to find the intrepid ones, thanx for the info. I like doing these kinda mods. And its even better when u dont have to spend 500 bills on the BRacing ones. How much do these coil packs go for at the junk yard ruffly? What should i expect to pay? and what are they new? thanx Chris

for a template to be cut from a machine shop id say no more than $25-$30

Wires - $5 maybe $10 i dont know what wiring cost, my dad is an electrician :)

Keep in mind , Number 1 cylinder starts from the timing gears, 4,3,2,1.

Dark blue line is considered the blue wire with black line.
if u make the top pin the red wire than all the other coils have to have the top pin as the red wire. same as if u choose it to be the bottom pin.

The pic is set up for a dsmlink cam inverted setup. Switch two blue wires for a normal non cam inverted setup. All thanx to HybridAWD. he helped me with mine. This should help everyone alot. ill post pics of mine tomarro

99 intrepid coils, 50.00 dollars new from the dealer, dealer cost is 27.00
if u cant get connectors for the coils then just solder the wire to the pin. Cut some of the plastic back with a dremel so u can get to the pin better and then shrink wrap it.

not to throw even more confusion in here but what about the coil on plug set up from a motorcycle? Groc mentioned dwell time of the coil which is what seems to be the factor that is keeping this from being a solved thread. Any clues as to where to find the dwell time of a peticular coil and what would we be looking for when said resource is found? I am assuming that a dwell time of 50%(?) is the desired.

you want more dwell time.... get aem and control them seperatly, i think you can do that with aem ;)

More info for everyone:
Each coil has a low primary resistance 0.4 to 0.6 ohms and steps up the primary system voltage from 12 volts to as much as 40,000 volts to produce a spark for the spark plug. On the Chrysler COP systems, there's also a coil capacitor for each bank of coils for radio noise suppression.
Being that it jumps from 12volt to as much as 40,000volts i believe this is why the coils dont like to be used with the stock ignition.
As for spark plugs, long life platinum plugs are used with most COP ignitions. Such plugs are capable of going 100,000
miles under ideal conditions. But keep in mind any plug can still succumb to fouling and misfire if an engine burns oil, develops an internal coolant leak or runs too rich.

I have a new idea about these COP's too, but everyone will just have to wait for those :)

Just get some CBR coils, the harness for connectors, wire them up and be done with it.

it doesnt matter what you use, if you can get the connector and wire them up then there you go..... wether is be a GM coil, honda coil, toyota coil, nissan.....

what im thinking about is a little bit more, reassuring you wont be blowing the spark out anytime soon :)

a few people have tried it. try a search.

the usual results. better idle, more responsive part throttle control and smoother WOT pull.

nobody has posted before and after results, and I dont think they will have huge gains unless their setup is making 550-600hp were the stock ignition is starting to become a drawback.

Really? is that with the stock ECU? or ECU/DSMlink or other standalone. can this setup be used with wth stock ecu? aslo what about bucsher setup.

yeah i know that but they are talin about a custom setup that falied several times over. im askin if an on has tried extremes setup of buscher's set up.

i mead has anyone tried buscher or extreme setup (gotta get use to this new keyboard excuse the spelling)

Here is Coil ON Plug for DSM. Uses motorcycle coils. You need an AEM CDI for it however. Still very nice setup. Think with everything you see there was $600 wired ready for install. I have the AEM CDI now so I may buy the rest of it and go coil on plug like this.

wow, first time I see that setup. Looks very nice. Now will that setup work with the stock ECU or do you need the AEM to work with it?

and do the regular spark plugs fit with those coils?

I'm not sure there to be honest, they come with denso iridiums in the kit.. I'm sure they will hook upto a stock plug but couldn't say for sure. It will work without the EMS, the CDI is a normal ignition box like the MSD DIS2 or whatever.

Nope, but I already have the ignition box and the COP setup will likely be $200-250 without the box. I have a magnus manifold which leaves me with having to find a spot for my coil pack. I have it bolted down now, but sure would like to just do away with it. For $200 why not just dump it and go coil on plug? Do I REALLY need a Sparco seats in my car when the stock seats are perfectly fine? Not really but they sure would be fun to have. I know the COP setup will not be any better than my stock coils but it will definately clean up under the hood and I have the money so why not?

No, Jim, I was not talking to you as much as the other guy.

However, the seats analogy is a little bit flawed. You may very well need seats, if the car is fast enough to require harnesses and stuff.

Anyway, not a big deal.

hey dsmjim what site did you get that pic from? were can you buy it at? and FYI coil on plug offers a MAjoR advatage especially if you are running high boost or nos.. or both. not only that you get up 40,000v per plug and with a stand alone you get adjust the ignition points per cylindr instead of 1-4 2-3 etc....

I know I was just trying to come up with something that is fun to have and not really needed much like sparco seats or a COP setup on most street cars.. Either way you get the jist of what I was trying to say... :thumb:

Here is the thread on AEM's site in the CDI specific forum... Apparently it's $600 shipped too.

http://forum.aempower.com/bbs/viewtopic.php?t=6015

It's from http://www.eurospeedperformance.com I don't think it's listed on their site but you can call them.
