Chipped Harmonic Damper

Well, Im on my 3rd DSM as of last month, bought it from a guy in AZ. He had the motor fully rebuilt, and I have to put everything back together and drop in the motor. All the parts came in boxes, and the Harmonic balancer was in a box with the AC compressor and power steering pump, it was banged around and it has a chip on the inner lip. It looks to be in great shape, the rubber is in great shape, no cracking or hardness. Will the chip have any affects on the motor? Last thing i need is the engine messing up. But I would rather not have too spend more in it.

I'm currently on my phone, and my cameras broken, soo a pic will have to come another day. But its just a peice of the lip, its about a inch long and took off maybe a little under a quarter inch of metal

Take a file, or grinder, and file down the rough edges to smooth where it got broken off so the belt won't snag into it.

Install the pulley and the belt, then rotate the pulley with the wrench and see if the belt has no problems with that gap, and if not, youre good to go.

I wouldnt even risk it. It is in unknown condition (sometimes looking just doesnt do justice) and now a chunk of the lip is missing. If you have to get the car running then file it and put it on but if there is any wobble after the install its probably eating that belt. Thats just my opinion. I dd my dsm and have had to make choices like this before.

Mine has a chip. It's only a small one. I'm sure guys with their rotating assemblies balanced to +/- 5g will freak out, but you're fine running it if it doesn't catch or rub on the belt.
