So as of right now I don't have a cat on my car, just a straight pipe. I got rid of the old cat because it wasn't even legal where I live. We have an emissions test here in DE, and so I need to get one that's 49 state legal, just so I can pop it in for the test, and take it out afterward. Because I won't be keeping it in, I want to get one that's cheap. Anybody know any cheap ones that are good?
If possible, I'd like to stay around $150 or less. Thanks guys.

You can get one real cheap. They just wont last as long. I have a brand new one ive never used that ill give you for cheap. If your interested message me.

Vibrant makes a fairly cheap....I mean inexpensive one. I had gotten one from JNZTuning.

I think a 49 state legal one should come with a little green card that you would keep in the car with the registration and insurance card. I got one with the high flow cat that I got from Random Technology.

Hey man, I have a magnaflow 2.5" straight through catalytic converter with less than 2k miles. I'd be willing to get rid of it for around $50. I bought it and 3 months later upgraded to a 3" exhaust. Check my for sale ad in the parts section for my contact info.

Wow! Thanks for all the responses guys! I'll check out rockauto, summit racing, and ebay. I'll also be sure to check the reviews of all the places I encounter.

Thanks again!

That doesn't really apply to 90% of aftermarket cats. Seeing as his old one wasn't emissions legal, it was aftermarket to begin with. I'd venture to say very few of these cars have original cats on them.

You'd be lucky to get $5 at a yard for an aftermarket cat. In fact, the yard I used to work for didn't even buy them. Our recycler would even dock us $3 for the majority of aftermarkets. Very few have a quality catalyst. Then ones that do, aren't less than $100. Even then, I think the most I ever saw the recycler pay for the aftermarkets was about $25. We'd pay about $3.50 for it....
