What Are the Symptoms of a Clogged Catalytic Converter? | eHow.com

Has any one of you guys experience a bad/ clogged catalytic converter. I have been having trouble with my car lately and the car will loose tons of power when the a/c is on or I have 3 passengers with me. I did everything I can think of. BLT, compression, plugs, wires, fuel pump, fuel filter, coil, wideband is reading steady 14.xx ... the last thing I haven't check is the catalytic converter.
Will I took it off, shook it, no sound or signs of broken combs. I could see the light at the end pointed straight to the sun and see about a dime size light, very dim.
I also failed smog, tech said it was a bad cat. But I'm never to sure about smog tech's advice's???

Okay I think taking the rear o2 out would be pointless. Today I swapped to a high flow cat and still the same problem. Less knock but still noticeable.
Next thing to check is the knock sensor. And no, there is no geew and slimy knock sensor.

Based off that pattern your cat is dead, it may not be clogged but it's definitely no longer functioning. You should try doing a boost leak test. If your compression and fuel, and timing is fine then that's about all that's left.

After reading all of this....I'm officially positively sure my cat is f***ed, total loss of power after putting my exhaust back on. Delayed throttle response, boost takes forever to hit....punch the throttle and wait 10 seconds before I actually hit boost and then it'll pull like a banshi, on a ported 14b that's just wrong. When I had my DP off running just the o2 housing it was hit the throttle and you were gone like right now!
oh and only a very very small boost leak at the EGR valve block off plate....litterly tiny.

Drill a half inch whole down the center and hook it back up. If it suddenly works a lot better its definitely the cat
