I kinda want to go high comp but I don't want to spend the money for forged pistons. Do they make CAST high-compression pistons? Anyone know where to find them? I have been doing some searching on the net and only seem to find $400+ forged pistons. I am thinking about picking up a spare block soon and just getting some stock rods shot peened and getting high comp pistons and do a nice little N/A build with some DELTA cams and an AF/X ecu....if I don't go boost.

Looking for 420a pistons. Anyone know the specs; compression height, pin diameter, etc?

the only thing i can say is that i am in the middle of my rebuild and im going with the full engine rebuild kit from ebay which has been recomended from a few friends who run up to 13 lbs of boost on the included pistons. 390. for everything. send them the sizes for rings bearings and cam bearings. hope that helps a little.

It's not the stock pistons that give in during high boost, it's the rods. I really want cast high comp pistons. They sell them everywhere for honda's...

I personally wouldn't trust eBay with car internals, unless of course they are sending a name brand. 13psi isn't that impressive for a rebuild, when you can run up to 10 on stockers. I plan on getting forged, just because I am sure when I take the car to the max NA, I will through at least a 150shot on there just because.

You, in a sense, just answered your own question.

Oh Really??? Sayin I should buy Honda pistons...............

I want high compression, not boost. I'm not worried about my rods. Most I'll do the them is have them shot peened and arp bolts put into them for high rpm operation.

I don't want boost...don't want nitrous...just want high compression. 11:1+ I don't need a forged piston just to bump compression. SHOW ME A CHEAP CAST HIGH COMPRESSION PISTON I don't want opinions, I want a link to a set of reasonably priced cast HIGH compression pistons.

You are going to put arp bolts in a cracked rod that isn't capable of being re sized? Go ahead and get right on that.

If you want cheap compression, deck the block and shave the head. They dont make high compression cast pistons. The pistons are the weakest point in these motors then its the rods. With proper tuning they will probably hold up to a little bit higher compression but while if you going to spend the money to rebuild the motor a couple hundred $ for a set of good pistons seems worth it to me.

That's why they will be checked and shot peened :)

Shot peening has nothing to do with the big end of the rod being out of round or not. It is just to stress relieve the metal. The reason that it is not a good idea to run arp's is because they apply more clamping force and it will distort the rod. Most other rods can have the cap and rod shaved down and resized, the 420a is a cracked rod and will not allow for that.

Please point me in the direction of the couple hundred dollar pistons. I see stock comp cast pistons for around $100 then forged in whatever comp I want at $450+

Hmm learned something new. Thanks. Sounds like it really is less hassle to just go low boost.

Shotpeening will also strengthen the rod somewhat, but then you are also going to need to get both the bores re honed out. On top of that I would recommend to find a way to keep your thread blocked off during this process. In house when we shot peen, we do it well before thread are put in, and before the final honing of both bores. Also I wouldn't recommend an AFX ECU with anything about 10.5 comp. It may be possible, but you are really tempting knock with how much that ECU advances your timing.

If knock becomes an issue I could always just switch to anadjustable MSD ignition.

thats the best way to go if youre looking for cheap. the first head that came on my car was shaved twice. .040 the first and .070 the second. it raised the compression quite a bit.

It's what I did on my Honda too, though it wasn't too cheap. ^^^ Are you running a set of large cams with that setup?

There isn't that much aftermarket support for the 420a guys.
Obviously Honda is all n/a (factory cars of course), so there support for n/a is way higher.
Have you tried going on a neon forum and asked them?

I haven't actually gone on a neon forum but I have been searching the web for neon and eclipse pistons.

You would be better off skipping the msd and AFX ECU and jumping to MSnS, would save you money in the long run

I wish these were eprom ECUs. I had $400 worth of tuning equipment from my Honda that would have worked on any flashable ecu :ohdamn:
