Hey, just wondering how everyone is routing their catch cans. I have read the tech right up on it. How many of you are running the exit to the intake vs just venting to the atmosphere? I read you should have a vacuum to help evacuate the crank case gases, but hooking it up to the intake seems like a lot of vacuum... Thanks!

i have two -8an lines running from my valve cover to my catch can then one -10an running from my intake tube to the catch can to help pull the excess pressure out.

@OH91awd, Do you ever see any evidence on the turbo, that you are sucking in any oil fumes???
I was afraid of caking up the turbine blades.

Thanks guys, I will probably run mine to the intake tube as well. Do you guys think there is a time to ever go to 2 catch cans? I am going to be using just one of the mishimoto ones.

If you have EXCESSIVE blow by, then it may be needed.

I personally run two sealed cans, one for the fresh air side and one for the pcv side. I like it as I notice less oil in the intake manifold from the pcv, previously it would suck a fair amount of oil and cake the manifold, now it's squeaky clean after 25k miles (did 10k stock style after the rebuild).

In a way I guess. It's just like a stock system except there are cans inline, as well as the check valve right at the intake manifold. This allows the pcv line to pull through the fresh air vent like normal, and when in boost the flow "reverses" so any excess pressure is being pulled out by the fresh air can through the turbo inlet.

I had one catch can from breather to intake. When I recently took off my IM, just the runners were covered in oil. Btw I have a check valve from pvc to IM. So I installed a second catch can. It’s a one off of amazon and imho it’s a good quality unit. Haven’t ran my car yet and hope she’ll be up and boosting next week

I bought those same cans. I have to figure out how I will mount them though.

This is how I mounted them. There’s a lip on the fuse box so measure it well and use the one bolt for the fuse box

Asking which catch can setup to run is akin to asking what the best oil to run is. Everyone will have a different answer. Most high hp cars appear to be running the vented setup. However, I chose to run a 10an back to my intake because FP, Holset etc have done the testing and they recommend a sealed, vacuumed setup. Therefore, that's what I run.

One of the big problems with any vacuum assisted catch can setups on a modified turbo car is simply that the vacuum system in the car just doesnt have enough volume to move what really needs to get out of the way, thats why most highly modified or high boost cars have to vent them, not only that but oil fumes are just detonation bait waiting to happen.
