I have a 90 eagle talon tsi m/t fwd. I know there's lots of these out there but i have tried so many things to get my car to start. I was driving my car home and all the sudden i lost a lot of power and then it stalled out and now it wont start. I did a couple tests and saw that i had no compression in my first cylinder, i did a cylinder head swap and found that it was a bent valve. After getting everything back together the car will crank but it wont start. I have spark on all four, i have 155 compression all the way, and my injectors are shooting fuel. I tried replacing the mpi relay, i tested my ecu in my friends talon and it worked i checked my CAS, im starting to run out of ideas and need help figuring this one out.... any ideas would be great???????

Are you sure you have the timing completely right? also do you have the firing order correct?

See if the injectors are spraying fuel. this happened with my buddies tsi... we put the injectors from his other talon in and it worked. other wise if its turning over at least spray some carbon choke cleaner into the intake and see if it starts that way. then you know its something with it not getting enough fuel.

If your getting all the necessary things to make it run(Sufficient fuel, spark, compression, air) and it's not..... It almost has to be the timing. If you check the timing, plug wires and everything is good and it still wont run chances are you CAS is going bad.

I've redone the timing three times to be positive that it's right, also had my friend who has been working on these for about 12 yrs check the timing and says its right...my CAS and my Computer have been tried in my buddies talon and his car fires right up...i can see the injectors fire but i might try spraying some stuff in the intake and see if it fires up for a second indicating my injectors being bad...i'll try to update tomorrow with what i have ty everyone for your suggestions

also yes the firing order is correct, it goes 4123 right?

My buddy and I, Tyeler18, had the same problem with his 1990 ended up being insuficiate fuel presure. We had fuel to the raid but not enough to presurize it. Check that your don't have a hole in a line or maybe a clogged fuel filter. His ended up being a missing retainer cap on the pump itself, but an idiot put the pump in, and most likely that isn't your problem. Also could posibly be the resister box for your injectors.

well i pulled the plugs today to spray some starter fluid in there and found that in my fourth cylinder that the washer that goes on the spark plug was all jacked up and was keeping the plug from tightening all the way down (that;s what i get for letting someone else put my plugs in) so im going to get new plugs today and see if that's what's going on. I changed out the register box also i think before, is it the silver box on the fire wall with 4 wires going into it?

ok so i replaced the spark plug and now it will start but it runs like crap then stalls out. I tried advancing the CAS and checking my throttle cable to make sure everything was good, even flipped the CAS thinking it was the wrong way but it didnt make it better or worse...? timing is pretty much perfect as far as i can tell...doesn't make sense to me.

i don't have a fuel pressure gauge.... can i rent one from somewhere? Might be right because it will run really strong when it first fires up but then just kinda starts chugging really bad and died.

Ok well, i just went a head a replaced all my spark plugs...i also switched out my coil pack, my mpi relay, the register box and what ever sensor/relay is right below where the coil pack is and still nothing....BUT i have tube headers and i noticed that only my fourth cylinder is hot ( so that means the only one firing is my fourth cylinder...?) what would cause this? I have spark in all four...?

Check that fuel pressure and update, is it missing or is it just running rough? When it's idling, I would go down the line and pull each spark plug and see if it makes and difference in the idle, that way you can be certain which cylinders are firing.

WOW!!!! Could spent about 1/3 the cost of those parts on a good gage. Now he spent that same money and still has to buy the gage, and the fuel pump if that's the problem. Swapping parts without knowing what the problem is only costs you more and more money.

This is very frustrating for those of us trying to help from across the country...

actually i've only spent about $8 for plugs so far, just happen to have a friend with extra parts just sitting in his garage....but i'm going to try to get a fuel pressure gauge and go from there

well i couldn't afford $75 to rent a fuel pressure gauge but i pulled my fuel rail and cranked it a few times to take a look a the injectors....the fourth one is spraying a fine mist and the rest are just squirting a little...so would that be my injectors or my fuel pump?

Fixed it!!!!! Pulled the injectors off the fuel rail and saw that there was gunk built up in the rail, got some carb cleaner and sprayed all the injectors out and the fuel rail then put a new fuel filter on and it fired up like a champ! Thanks for all your help everyone...sorry it turned out to be something simple...i was getting fuel just wasn't atomized like it needed to be.
