hey guys when i bought this car about 2 months ago i bought it manily in pieces so i decided to do a rebuild i rebuilt it stock not performance now i have the engine back in the car and for about a week or 2 ive been trying to start it it just coughs and attempts to start
but nver comes close

i have spark i tested with a inline tester and i tested it out of the hole
i have fuel i have a new walbro 190lph and i took off the stock regulator on the drivers side and it shot fuel everywhere
i have compression i have 120-123-123-120 on the cylinders i think it low because the rings havent seated am i right?

when i take out the plugs after some cranking the plugs are moist with fuel so i dont understand why it wont start i tried reversing the firing order from 4-3-2-1 to 1-2-3-4 no change ive checked timing three times and its dead on the previous owner cut all the wires to the maf sensor could that do anything also there is a set of three plugs that that i know for sure two of them go to the thermostat housing but i dont know where the third one goes i have only one pluged in becuse the other owner had an aftermaket temp gauge and i dont have the sock sending unit i dont think that would do anything would it? but i have seen some things on here about engine coolant temp sensor so idk

oh yea i did spray starting fluid in the intake once and it started right up

thanks for the help guys

did you have to rewire the MAF? if you did i would double check your wiring, if the plugs are wet with fuel it sounds like it's fouled out. i would also double check the firing order. 1-2-3-4 doesn't sound right to me. i think its 1-3-4-2. but i'm not sure.

The two plugs on the left coil go to cylinders 1 and 4 and the two plugs on the right coil go to cylinders 2 and 3. The coil fires both plugs on a coil at the same time (wasted spark) so it doesn't matter which of the 1/4 coil pack goes to cylinder 1 or 4. Same with the 2/3 coil pack. So 1-2-3-4 or 4-3-2-1 are both wrong. So is 1-3-4-2. The #1 cylinder is on the timing belt end ("front") of the motor, but that doesn't really matter...the two "end" cylinders 1 & 4 go to the left coil and the two "middle" cylinders 2 & 3 go to the right coil.

It might be that you have a 2gb CAS and a 2ga ECU or vice versa which switches the coil pack timing. You can try swapping the 1/4 wire pair with the 2/3 wire pair and see if that works.

Here's a link with a picture. Try the left picture first.

I'm not sure about the connectors in the picture. A wild guess at the larger one might be the front O2 sensor plug. Trace the O2 sensor wire (usually runs over the exhaust manifold heat shield) from the O2 housing on the drivers side over the manifold to under the thermostat housing. It's kind of hidden, the pair of plugs (male+female) are bolted to the motor under the tstat housing with a single 10mm bolt and a small steel bracket that slides into the connector in your hand (if that's the right one), thus holding the connected pair of plugs in place.

Another wild guess at the smaller connector might be the BCS plug. The BCS is bolted to inside of the passenger-side frame rail under the coolant overflow bottle. If the black solenoid is there without a plug see if it fits. If that's it, it won't keep the car from starting but will throw a code if it's not plugged in.

If you haven't rewired the MAS, I'm not sure if it will fire or not, but it won't stay running or maybe just barely.

ok i now know what all the connectors are for ane is for coolant temp for the ECU another is for coolant temp for the dash and the other is for the oxegen sensor
would the car not start not having the oxegen sensor because it just has a bolt in its place right now

yes i did fix the firing order the pic to the left was how i had it
i tried both setups for the firing order still the same

ok so i just got my maf maf translator that i bought from a member on here
the stock plug was cut so now i need to know what wires from the translator go to the stock harness

the translator has these not in the plug see pic
purple
white

in the plug it has
brown
black
pink
green
grey

my harness has
red
blue/light green
green/light green
red/blue
black
red/white
orange

thanks for the help guys

I am about to rebuild. Really though, I am eliminating my balance shafts. I need some assistance on how to reassemble the right way. I am taking the engine out pretty soon and I need to know how to do wiring, turbo...All the neccesary things to put an engine in to the Talon. I'm taking off the Tcase right now.:talon:

yea i will help you to the best of my knowledge just pm me

I suggest you take a look at the ECU, take it out from behind the center part of the dash on the driver side. after that open it up (make sure you ground your self) and take a look if any parts of the ecu are burn on top or underneath.

checked ecu no burnt caps doesnt smell like anything
rewired maf and translator still no start
ideas anyone??????????

check and see if the water temp wire is connected on the thermostat housing. My car wouldn't start without that.
