2G Car running different after engine swap

Just dropped my 95 TSi engine into a 97 GST roller. Got it running, but something just seems different...

Starts up fine, and idles at about 1k rpms (normal for my TSi). Then, after a few minutes, it drops down to about 900...then 800...then 700...and so on. I'm not sure if the tac is just messed up, or if something is wrong. I know I should be able to hear the difference, but I have bad hearing and can't really tell.

Other than that, my car seems to heat up a lot faster than it used to. Not sure if I should be worried or not.

Any input would be appreciated. Thanks guys.

Did you read up on the swithes you need to do when using a 95-97?

Hold on a second. Changes only need to be made if the op didnt use all of the 97 sensors. Year of the mechanical engine doesn't matter. The ecu doesnt know if you have a 95 or even a 90 motor for that matter. The problem always lies in the ability to run the same sensors or for many of us running dsmlink you would have to use a prior year ecu.in a 2g so that necessitates a change. Op what did you use?

That's exactly what I'm talking about hello. The sensors, crank and cam being diff between 95 and 97. He doesn't mention anything about what he did to correct This issue. And why I asked plenty of info on here about it

I'm using the 97 wiring harness with my 95 eprom ecu. I rewired the CPS so it would work with my 95 engine.

I know I didn't go too in depth with my opening post, but I was just seeing if you guys could think of anything off the top of your head.

Check mechanical timing. Were you running that 95 ecu before? It helps to know what you changed. If it was only the motor and JUST the motor it should generally run the same. All bets are off if you changed ecu, sensors, cams etc.

I've always been running the 95 ecu. The only thing I did was drop in the engine and ecu, and then wired up the CPS to make it work. Gofer showed me how to do that on one of my other posts.
