So I spun a rod bearing and my local mechanic told replacing it would cost 500 and up. I can't replace it myself as I don't have garage so he said it would be cheaper to just swap the whole engine. So my question is what engines are easy swaps or should I look for only 2.0 4g63 again? And from what other cars can you get same 4g63 engine? I know some galants had it but thats about it. Btw the car is 2.0 1g gs. It would be impossible to sell it right now with spun rod bearing so the other only option is to wreck it for metal and I don't really want to send this car to a grave

Well a non turbo engine, it can cost up to more than 500, swap the whole engine but again you dont know what your getting, with a used engine. It may hold up it may not these cars are over 25 years old.

I can probably find one non turbo for around 200 here. I'd probably swap the engine and sell if its another 2.0 non turbo so asking if there are easy swaps for better engines as then I'd probably keep the car.

No other easy swaps, im not sure what you meant by easy just replace what you have. The easiest thing you can do is just replace the engine, and look kinda hard to tell you anything more than that.

Another N/A 4g63 is the only "easy" swap.

A spun bearing costs a lot more than $500 to fix in parts alone.

You're buying another 30 year old engine, chances are it will also have issues. The donor engine should have new bearings as well as all new gaskets, seals, and timing components installed before it goes in. If you can't verify compression or that it is very low miles then I would honestly hone and re-ring it too.

To be honest the car is probably not economical to save at this point, unless you want to slap a bandaid fix on it only to be broken down again in a few months.
