I have a quick question I’m trying to swap my stock engine on my 1999 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS , I wanna buy a vq motor from a 2004 Infiniti coupe g35 do you guys think by any chance it will fit on my 99 eclipse ?

Generally, I say if you have to ask if it will fit, you're not prepared to take on the challenge. If you're dead set on a VQ swap, you're probably better off finding a Altima/maxima as a donor. They had the engine mounted transversely, and we're available with a 6-speed manual transmission. There are a lot of hurdles with a swap like this, and you are probably better off just buying a G35 if you want rwd VQ power

I appreciate it man so I’m better off if I buy a maxima engine or a Altima then ? I really just wanna swap engine due to the fact I wanna make my car a v6 I really appreciate the feed back man

If you really just want it to be a V6, get a Dodge avenger for a swap donor.

Do you understand the amount of fabrication this requires?

the dodge avenger 2.5L V6 makes something like 160BHP. Stock 420a I4 engine makes 150BHP. How could that possibly be worth it?
It seemed like the only motivation for a swap was to have a V6. That seems like it would be the easiest way to achieve that singular goal.

What's the deal with everybody wanting to swap random engines in their N/T? If it's too slow then build it, or spend less money buying something faster. Cramming a larger engine into a car designed to have a low torque 4 cylinder is asking for issues.

Don't get me wrong, I get where you're coming from. Of course it'd be cool as hell to have a v6 Eclipse and it'd be pretty quick. But you would need to change literally every aspect of the drive train & suspension to support it.

The main reason for the Avenger 2.5 swap is because it's fairly easy to the mechanically inclined. It doesn't have much to offer over the 420a though. It has better low end power & torque, but it doesn't rev as high and the aftermarket parts base is a bit limited compared to that of the 420a.

No, 3g gts swap for a v6 into a 2g n/t
I misunderstood.
I had forgotten a dodge avenger is basically a 2g from the dash/midsection forward. Dash is identical to 2g and some parts are interchangeable.
Few people try and swap because of the availability of the 4g63t.
Now I'm curious.

Follow my build thread, I'm attempting it this summer. From comparing mounts it looks like the stock 3g mounts in a 2g will move the engine forward about 5-6 inches, and judging by the 4g64 swap, it should be mostly, if not completely bolt in. 3g axles will work, confirmed since a friend of mine had his gt axles out and I put them in the hubs of my 2g to confirm hub fitment. I won't be messing with harnesses, as I am going standalone, so I have no pointers there for running a stock 3g ecu.

3g chassis and 2g chassis are not the same. You really think all suspension dimensions are the same? Track, travel, location....all the same? If if even bolts in that doesn't mean it's correct. Pull the joint out of the cup some and see what happens when you make a tight turn.

You are welcome to follow my build thread to see how it goes 😁

The GT 00-02 had a smaller intake manifold while 03 to 05 GTS had the big boy i owned one as a daily for 14 years. Which one are you going to use? I ask because the 03 mani could effect fitment. With that mani change in 03 it gave the engine an extra 10 crank hp. My 05 was my my most reliable car i have ever owned 195k miles biggest repair i did was plug wires. That's a job because the whole upper intake manifold has to come off to change the rear 3 plugs and wires. Its very annoying but IMO they are nice engines and mine was very reliable, so yeah I'd like to see where this goes, good luck to you :thumb:

I meant to reply a while ago. I'm going to use the more compact 6g73 intake from a 96-2000 sebring or avenger.
