1G Car not building any boost

What led you to believe head gasket also. Seems odd on a new motor.
Thought the same thing too, but as I was driving the car a few days ago I changed the oil after the initial break in. And noticed the cap had that frothy look to it and the oil cap had a slight tint of green around it. Changed the oil and cleaned the cap, didn’t think too much of it at the time but I thought it was odd.
After a day or two of driving it a few times I checked the cap again a to see the same frothy substance on it again.
Took off the spark plugs and saw into the cylinders and saw they had a wet slimey look to them.
did a leak down test and the readings were really good 10% loss was the highest with cylinder 3 and 4, and 5% with 1 and 2.
Didn’t push any coolant up from the thermostat housing either. So it leads me to believe that it’s not sealing well against the oil ports between the block and head. Even after retorquing the head studs.
But it’s being burnt somehow too, the car produces white smoke at idle and sometimes while driving.

I don’t wanna stray away from the main question about the thread being about the no boost build up so we can stay on topic. but that’s the conclusion I came down to for the head gasket

Alright so I took off the 02 housing and look at the flapper moves and closes with the flapper took some pictures of the flapper closed.

Noticed there’s a slight crack in hotside housing

And upon further inspection I found that the hotside turbine wheel moves freely and has a lot of play.
Stuck my phone in there and hit record because it’s a little tight to see with the 02 housing. and decided to spin shaft to see if it rotated from the the cold side. It didnt spin at all , and after I stuck my hand in there to see if it did, it moves all over the place.
Safe to say that it was the turbo all along.

Would have figured it out sooner if I had taken the 02 housing off originally like you guys said :ohdamn:
Thanks for all the feedback and help.
Still relatively new to the dsm platform with lots to learn. Now I gotta source a new turbo

I was going to ask about if both sides spun but figured if they didnt you would have had a ton of smoke from oil but I guess not.

So the shaft broke?

Isn't the wheel nut loose? Is the turbine wheel MHI one or eBay one? If the nut is counterclockwise, it's kinda hard to believe that the nut gets loose while spinning, but if it's clockwise one, there is a chance to get loose.

At least this thread indicate the reason why not to guesstimate and should throw away assumptions and prejudices when try to solve issues.
