Not-Building Boost..

Well i just noticed that when the car is parked or not moving should i say, its not building boost when i rev the car. When i'm driving everything is fine and the car drives normal, but when the car is not moving and im reving it, it doesn't built any boost it makes this weird grinding noise or sometimes it backfires. I was thinking that is because there is no air flowing when the car is parked in the garage. I am not sure, but does this sound normal?

Your car will not be able to build boost unless under load, so everything sounds normal.
