okay check this out, im know im a dufus for doing this to my baby but listen to the circumstances, i had reason.
It started snowing late one night, ended up geting like 10 inches of snow. I had no ride home other than my talon tsi, FWD, yes FWD. I couldnt even get out of the parking lot for 15 minutes. I finally figured out that with my lack of traction and way too much power on tap, the only way to get moving was to stick in 1st and run steady at about 6500 rpm or i would lose momentum once i did get moving. I only had to go 1.5 miles. Well i did that dodging traffic and big ass 4X4's i got home and noticed temp was hot but not overheated.my tubo was bright red, and i must have burned some oil cause it was low when i checked it. well, i let her run and cool down, thats when it started to make noises, at first i thought it was knocking sparatically, then the longer i let it run it started to get more like a beat like it was doing at the same time every revolution. I have drove the car once since that night, and i ve started it maybe 8 times since then. When i drove it it was maybe a 1/8 of a mile and it had plenty of boost but no power. If i gave it gas, the tapping/knocking got louder, but at idle, it is almost like it isnt there. I have let the car sit for about 4 months now, i havent got a chance to pull the head yet, but im convinced the noise is something in the valvetrain, maybe the timing belt jumped some teeth idont know yet. But i know that it idles fine, maybe starts a little hard but idles fine. The exhaust smells like its not burning gas all the way, gas fumes are pretty prominent when i start it up. i dont drive it, only start it to let it run every now and then.
my question is, anyone taken theyre engine through this kind of abuse and had the same symptoms? This is now my secondary car, i payed it off in dec and bought a 4X4 for these hellashish ky winters. i plan on fixing it, cause otherwise the car is in really good shape, has 110000 on the od, and tons of new parts i would hate to get rid of it.
If anyone can point me in the right direction before i start pulling parts it would help. Thanks.

uh ps i know im a dufus for running it that hard in the snow, ive been kicking myself, i just particually didnt want to walk home in the snow.

Take it from a northeastern'er, thats not the way to drive in the snow. You dont want to put too much power down, otherwise youll just spin. Now you said you drove home at 6500rpm in first gear, were the tires spinning in the snow or were you getting traction? The way to drive is gently give it power untill the tires grab. Then slowly apply the power, but not too much. Its normal for the turbo to get bright red. I doubt you skipped timing, that cant happen from what you did. Your best bet is do a compression test before you pull the head, that will tell you alot.

i know im an idiot for doin it. but its done and now it needs to be fixed. Any ideas? burned piston. i run mobil one synthetic, plus lucus oil which really helps the cleanlyness of my oil and actually makes the car run cooler on a regular basis. im planning on getting my car towed to my garage next week and im prob gona start on it. You think i should just pull the head?
you said you dont think it could be the timing belt, im thinking maybe a valve spring or maybe a few. Maybe a burnt valve? thanks for the feed back.

already beat me to it, do a compression check. this will tell you if any cylinders are dead. if any are, you get to spend an afternoon findout out why WTF goodluck and hopefully you didn't mess up anything too bad.

btw, I've found that when driving in snow, 2nd gear at a low RPM is the best way to travel. I think using the lowest gear that makes sense to drive in [ not 4th or 5th on a local street ] with a little gas and low RPMs works the best.

p.s., don't feel bad, I once downshifted into 2nd at 80 mph in my old 3000GT.... :notgood: :toobad:
