Junk yards in nyc aren't worth $hit. Been looking for the longest and come up short every time except for one spot charging me $550 for a used hx35 so I came to the conclusion that I have to buy from a rebuilder. Can anyone voucher for a member in our Site....black_gst ad here: $500 HX35 & HX40’s shipped! - DSM Classifieds or BAE turbo systems? Looking to buy ASAP....I'm currently doing a head rebuild so I figure to do the Holset upgrade while I'm down.. Thanks in advance for the input.

Got it yesterday and I must say, this thing looks 100%GENUINE and rock solid! Looks like no more than 30-40k on it. I can wait to take off the compressor and turbine housing to see what's going on. I have a feeling that a rebuild Will not be necessary. Let's hope

Pm jusmx141,hes in pa,but hell have your holset.

That may be true, as of today( i know he snagged a SWEET deal on a 6blade 40 recently hehehe) BUT, i would not count on that as a sure fire thing anymore.
I pmd him about a month ago and he had no 40s. black_gst's price of $500 isnt so bad if theyre rebuilt and ready to go that is.

yea thats why I was gona go with blask_gst, because of the price, custom housing and from looking at the ad it seems like quality work but the thing that kept picket at me was the fact that the replacement parts for the rebuild weren't all holset manufactured parts. Not saying thats not a good thing but its just my personal preference.

I plan doing a balance shaft elimination (leaving the from shaft in) as well as installing my head spare head I just got rebuilt from S&S speedShop in Queens. Check out the their work, what you think?

She's a beaut! lookin good bro

As far as black_gst, i havent heard anything bad so i wouldnt be worried(to all those reading this).
I am not downplaying this at ALL, but i think that many people are capable of doing really good jobs on holset rebuilds. Im sure theres no "dark magic" to it LOL. That said, if i get a beat up 40 i would be more inclined to send to justin cause he has one hell of a track record. We'll see.
But, im glad ya found you a good turbo and hope the rest comes to fruition for you

Here's what I'm working on:

-Wally 190 rewire
-FIC 650's(using them with my current 16G setup)
-rebuilt Head
-OEM head gasket
-Hx35 7blade
-BEP .55 a/r housing
-1G throttlebody
-2g IM ported to 60mm
-BC Cam shafts
-BC Cam gears
-BC springs
-Balance Shaft Eliminator (rear only)

You just have to be patient with your search. A good deal on a Holset isn't something that comes around every day, nor is it easy to find....and due to the demand, any core I get is usually gone in a very short period of time likely because I choose to use only Genuine parts.

But as I said, look around- eBay's a great place to find them but has been getting worse due to low supply and increased demand as the trucks they're used on get older and more people are discovering how potent they are for their price and size. Otherwise a Dodge diesel forum is fine for HX35's, but it's hard to find a HX40 there as the 40's are often what the diesel guys are upgrading to.

You just have to be ready when the deals arise- for example, here's an 8-blade HX40 in fresh reman condition for nearly the same as you paid for your used HX35: Holset 3599110 Cummins Turbo Charger HX40 4" Inlet 3" Outlet DSM 4g63 | eBay

i have a 40 in mine. what manifold do you plan on running

Since this is still going to be a street car I didn't want to get a sheet metal IM so I'm sticking with the stock 2g but ported for a 1g throttlebody

You should get a 255 pump. A 190 would be pushing it maxing out a 16g

I've read many places on this forum that puts the rewired 190 at the same level or even better than the 255 not rewired and I'm on a budget so that's why I decided to go with that.

I plan on doing my own tuning via ecuflash, evoscan and the God sent CEDDY MODS

i ment exhaust side. fitment is going to be an issue with some of them

I was like maybe an hr late on picking up that 6 blade in the classifieds.... Damn you Justin!! LOL
I bet that guy got a million pms though. Now that was a sweet deal

As far as pumps, go all the way and get a 450. Why not? They fit just fine and thats all you'll ever need.

i've had this 190 like 2yrs now no problems. That's why i opted to keep the 190 and go with a rewire instead of buying a 255.... so would the 450 require a rewire as well?

I'm keeping the stock but ported exhaust Mani... I plan on bending the stock water pipe carefully ofcourse

It all depends on how much psi you plan to run but all are about the same price

Just to be clear, those numbers assume 93 pump gas...

so would the 450 require a rewire as well?

I doubt you plan to, but if you want to run e85 and push that 7blade hx35 to it's limits (55-60lb/min) you should probably rewire the 450 pump just to be safe. Otherwise, it should be ok. Remember you'll also need an afpr...

Just a heads up, you'll need to replace the stock turbo coolant banjo bolt that sits right below the waterpipe. It's more of an issue than the actual waterpipe.

Here's the secret: an oil drain plug fits perfectly and can be bought at any local auto parts store for under $3. Comes with a nice washer too!

Oh another tip: spray your oil return flange and gasket with copper spray and use lock washers on the bolts :thumb:

Looks like they media blasted the head to clean. I'm a little suspect of the cam tower journals there -- they don't look smooth. Maybe it's a picture, but you might need a line hone done there now.

I only say this because I had a head "cleaned" by what I thought was a reputable shop here in town, and they blasted the head AND deck surface of the head, plus overspray from the media scored up the journal surfaces something fierce. They claimed nothing was wrong and the head would have no problems sealing. Obviously they had zero idea what they were doing when it comes to turbo heads. It looked identical to yours (minus the head gasket surface).

I will never go to H*ads Up! (partially censored) again.

Walbro 190 rewired 25psi = 46.58lbs/min
Walbro 255 25psi = 49.97lbs/min
Walbro 255 rewired 25psi = 59.58lbs/min
Walbro 255 HP 25psi = 58.24lbs/min

It all depends on how much psi you plan to run but all are about the same price

I don't plan on going over 25 psi... so its probably in my best interest to pick up a 255 and rewire. Yes 93 pump I'm shooting for a street demon maybe some track later on but not now.

O wow thanks for that tip I didnt even think about that and there was no mention on the write I plan to follow Clint's Garage: Holset HX35 Turbo Install. What size is that plug btw?.....yes he did, I overlooked it...(funny, I read this thing like 100x)

They feel smooth, how can i test to see if they effed things up? You mentioned "Obviously they had zero idea what they were doing when it comes to turbo heads"...when I went to go pick up the head we were chatting about my plans and so forth when the machinist asked before I got into details, "this is N/A?"....I told him no turbo. I didn't think it was a big deal that he didn't put much thought of whether it was turbo or N/A but Now I'm worried:ohdamn:
