Can I just JB-Weld my wideband bung onto my downpipe?

Like the title sais, can I do it? I don't have a real welder so that's why I'm asking. According to the JB-weld label you can weld metal to metal, plastic to metal, and nearly everything with this stuff.

Thanks for the help

If you use jb weld to hold that in i will drive to your house and smack you. Just get a muffler shop or a friend to do it.

so the stuff doesn't work then? Even though it states that it's an alternative to welding? I had some JB weld on the plastic UICP (on my previous dsm) and it worked fine. I'm just trying to figure out whether or not it will withstand the higher temperatures of the exhaust I guess I'm cheap and want to save the $20 for gas!?! :p

no it wont hold up to the temps.

myuberfast : dont cheap out on who you chose to weld that flange on. welding to a cast iron manifold thats going to see that high of temps and pressure isnt easy to do right.

the bung wouldn't be welded onto the manifold it would be welded onto the lower part of the downpipe

He wasn't talking to you notice he included the other guys username. WE all know where a wb02 bung goes. Just have someone weld it on if you use the jbweld you will regret it.

I'm not trying to counter every comment here but I'd just like to know whether this stuff is good for "future reference". According to the JB-Weld website it holds up to 500 degrees and can be used on cars for the following:
fuel tanks
radiators
cracked engine blocks
transmission & rear-end casings
cylinder heads & sleeves
generators, starters, water & fuel pumps
axles & hubs
valve guides
press fit bearings
crankshaft pulleys
casting defects
door stops
key ways
stripped threads
body shop repairs

and I also happened to find this thread where JB weld was used on the head and the user didn't complain about it wearing off

Exhaust manifold sees temps around 1000-1200 I don't know what temp the downpipe is, but if you want to try it go for and tell us what happens. Uhm did you read the thread? They were complaining about the guy who put jb weld there and ways to fix the stuff that was wrong with the head. It also said that this head hadn't been run since it had two bent valves.

yeah....I read the thread. A piece was broken off and they used JB weld to "glue" the thing back on. It was a unproper and messy way but the JB-Weld seemed to stay on there pretty well for a long time :p

I am curious as to why you are so intent on using JB Weld. I personally wouldn't ever do it. Driving to the exhaust shop and having them do it would have less downtime for your vehicle as well. Just get it done right, its not going to cost you much. Probably less than the $20 stated.

Well I guess you people are right even though I'm really curious to us it (I wonder whether or not it would hold). Would I have to remove the downpipe for the exhaust shop for them to weld it on or can they do it with the downpipe still on the car?

If your just trying to pull our chain, good one. If not, go ahead and try it... you'll teach yourself a good lesson. I tried fixing an exhaust manifold crack a long time ago with jb weld. Needless to say as soon as it heated up even at idle temps, it started to burn off. And it is the most foul thing you will ever smell. I thought I was going to die from the fumes.

yeah, I'm not trying to jb weld a exhaust manifold. I'm just trying to weld a small wideband bung to the downpipe.

So, like I asked before (forget about the jb-weld). If I were to take the car to the exhaust shop could they drill the hole and weld the bung with the downpipe still attached to the car or would I have to remove the downpipe and then take it to them? (I usually do all the modifying myself so I don't have too much experience with shops):(

They will put it on the lift and cut and weld for you. You pay them then leave. Then you grab jb weld and put it all over yourself and see what happens.

or I can send it to you and you can use it as a lubricant  ...

But other than that, thanks for the help

Why woluld you want it on your manifold? In terms yes they could but it is supposed to be welded to your downpipe.

myuberfast is talking about the flange for his external wastegate. yes a exhaust shop should be able to do it but find one with a good reputation and try and get a warranty in case the weld cracks.

reading comprehension is a skill thats sorely lacking on the internet :toobad:

I did mine in JB weld for about a months time. It worked fine, then when the car came apart for a little bit I had it done the right way
