Can I install an 255 walbro fuel pump without a fuel pressure regulator?

I know is good to install a fuel pressure regulator when installing a 255 walbro fuel pump but my money is low after buying some goodies for my 1g. So my question is, has anyone run a 255 walbro fuel pump without an fpr and if so what kind of problems did it created

You are going to run rich at idle and part throttle conditions. You can do it but an AFPR is strongly recommended. I say you should wait as there are no benefits really. I did it and my gas mileage suffered and didn't gain no performance.

thank you for the feedback

I ran a 255 with no fpr for a while a long time ago. At the time I had no way of monitoring or tuning my car and overall it ran pretty crappy. There were other problems at the time also.

However, I haven't really noticed any dangerous problems resulting from using the stock fpr, just that the car didn't run well with it.

I would highly recommend doing the afpr and fuel pump at the same time though. Also do the fuel pump rewire.

thank you, i will wait and do both fist chance i get.

Anyone have a recommendation on a FPR??? I've just bought my Walbro 255 and now need a FPR but I have no idea on what ones are good...

Most use aeromotive or fuelab fpr's. I'd recommend an Aeromotive a1000 fpr, that's what is going on the truck I am building. With that said, I have run a rewired 255 for about 3-4 years now without a fpr on my car. My base fp is pretty high (44.5 psi), but I have never really had drivability issues though I am sure my mileage (22-23 mpg) would be better if I put one on it.

Just get the 255 and throw it in there. I have been running one for 4 years no problem stock fpr. If you don't like it then buy a afpr but I doubt you will even notice anything minus the extra fuel that will be pumped if you run more boost and a little whining noise the pump makes, other then that you will be fine. Debate it if you want really save yourself the arguement just do it or dont. But seriously just do it.:thumb:

Does Walbro not sell the low pressure model of the 255 anymore? If they do, you can use that instead and not buy an FPR. I had that setup for maybe 8 years. The low pressure model though doesn't have the same maximum performance as the high pressure one but for many people it's still more than enough fuel pump.

i ran one for like 3months without a afpr. didnt really have any problems or issues without. but now i have an aeromotive afpr and you should be ok if you dont run one for a while.just my .02

I have not ran an afpr for over 3 years now. Won't lie I will eventually get one however just never put in the order. I'm usually a little rich at idle but once it switches into closed loop it's alright. I ran a 12.028 without one however my duty cycle was getting a little high near the end of my pull.

Just to be safe I would get one, if I were you.

I installed my 255, stock FPR. Logs were the same after, no change in fuel trims, wideband readings or MPG.

Same for me, and I've been running my Walbro 255 for about a year now. Installed FIC 750cc injectors 6 months ago too. Zero issues.

I ran a 255 for a good six months with no problems. No other upgrades to the fuel system just s GM Maf and a Maf translator. U will run a littel rich but let face of if ## on dsmtuner ## not in this for the fuel milage LOLLOL

No AFPR is needed with a Walbro unless your wanting to crank the pressure up to get every bit of flow from it and the injectors.

Ive ran so many Walbro's without an AFPR and there just fine.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I talked with the Tuner who is going to tune my AEM ems and he said that i dont need it using the AEM ems.
