Can anyone tell me what this does

Have my dash apart installing my new wide band. I've been looking at this and can't figure out what it does. Its controlled by the switch in the left corner.

Follow the wires, the enclosed black box looks something similar to what you use when installing led lighting a resistance pack so to speak. look for lighting under the dash etc.
