Can a bad transfer case cause to damage other parts?

I have a 2g gsx and it had been making a howling noise during all acceleration or deceleration. It finally failed the other day and it made the car immobile because it would cause a jumping in the drivetrain. I opened the t-case drain plug and no oil came out so immediately I thought this is my problem. Sure enough the transfer case is pretty much done for. I've read that the t-case can cause problems in the trans if it locks up when it fails but mine never locked up.

I need to for sure replace this t-case but, is there something else that could have broken or have been contributing to the problem?

Im sorry but thats inexcusable. Yes it can cause damage if it locks. You just used tranny parts to lock wheels up whicjh put torque back to the tranny. I can see issues with front, center and rear diffs.

Yeah I know, I just got the car . From the looks of it the t case fliud hasnt ever been changed in the life of the car because it never leaked.

I would think being in the shape its in you may still have gotten some unwanted wear/shock to other parts. Think about the noise you describe. The noise that's getting produced probably included a bit of extra vibration to other components since its dry and gummed up. I would say yeah, that t case being the way it is with running it like that, probably induced some premature wearing of parts I would think. Think stress on parts: clean gears with proper lube / gears with sludge, rust, shavings, dirt. Which would take less energy to move? making other parts work harder than they normally would by running it like that.
