diagnosing a bad rear differential & transfer case ?

dsm guru's, Just put in over the weekened a trans & transfer case, drive about 20 min wheels locking up. checked out trans by raising front wheels on vechicle in the air with the car in gear. spin 1 wheel the other goes in the other direction. don't think the trans is bad but, can't tell other probelms w/ trans, transfer case still on car. tranny & transfer case are 23 spline & rear is 3 bolt. any help would be appreciated.

Did you inspect the transfer case before you installed it? Did it turn freely by hand? If it did that's not the problem. I'd then suspect the center diff in the transmission. Did you inspect it before installing it? Were the output shaft splines worn? Did the output shaft move excessively in and out? Did the input and output shafts move freely when you spun the trans by hand through the gears? (You did do that before you installed it, right?)

appreciate the response. I had in the car a 22spline trans & transfer case. I spun both shafts on trans. they spun freely, the transfer case turned but binded up alittle there. would have used my old one but, it was 22 spline. I called back the company that I got the trans & transfer case. they said, they would give me another one. thanks again 4pistons.
