Camshaft Position Sensor

Im having a couple of issue with my 98 Eclipse RS. After it running for a minute at a idle it starts to run rough and pulsate(Rpm's slightly up/down sparaticly), also the engine vibrates at the same time. Past day or so its become sluggigh bewteen 2-3k when accelerating. Ive done some research and have a general idea that it might be the Camshaft Position Sensor. I haven't checked to see if its throwing any codes. If you have any idea on what it might be please let me know. Thanks for reading!

I have something very similar to that.

My idle pulsates up and down. Also often, when driving I will get a quick sputter and I get a P0340 code for the Camshaft Position Sensor.

Right now it doesn't seem to be a major problem, but I'm definitely going to replace it soon.

Check your wiring from the sensor to junction where it splits from the main harness. Sounds like you have intermittent short.

Saturday morning I plan on checking the sensor and connector, giving them a good clean and seeing what needs to be replaced.

I, also, am thinking it is wiring causing the since it's an intermittent problem.

How would you check the wiring from the sensor to junction where it splits from the main harness for a short?

What does your rpm gauge do? It should jump around if its the crank sensor. Idle surge is another thing so specify more clearly up and down idle

I'm not rightly sure how to explain it. I will try to get a video and post it.

It's almost like something is opening the throttle causing the RPMs to rise 250-600.
Sometimes it happens steadily, sometimes it goes up 700-900, and sometimes it idles fine.

Sounds more like your isc is bad or you have a vacuum leak

I'll have to do some research and figure out what the ISC is and how to test it and vacuum leaks. Thanks for the info.
