I just bought a 92 GSX. The camshaft sensor is loose and turns a little clockwise and counter clockwise. What is the factory position for it? Also, it is missing the boost sensor that sits on the airbox but the vacuum nipple on the intake is capped off and the wastegate line is ran directly from the j pipe to the wastegate. Will it run like that? Note: I just bought the car and haven't tried to start it because I'm waiting on the plug wires. Any help would be appreciated.
 
My CAS is right in the middle. You need to get a timing light and reset your timing. VFAQ will explain. As far as the answer to the wastegate question it will run like that but I don't know how much it will boost or if it will overboost. Buy a manual boost controller for 30-40 bucks and install it and your set. That or get a stock BCS which is what your originally missing correct?
 
The cam shaft sensor controls the ignition timing on the car. You will need to pull the timing gear cover and use a timing light to set your ignition timing. Don;t forget to ground the timing connector when you do it as well. And the car will run like that just can't control your boost is all I would recommend getting a manual boost controller or making one on your own.
 
Thanks. The timing was never messed with, just the cam sensor. Will I still have to time it with a light since it's just the sensor that was messed with? and I just ordered a manual controller btw.:D
 
Yes your CAS is how you adjust timing so you will need to reset your timing. Your timing is definately off now. So it would be very wise for you to get you timing adjusted correctly before running your car for any extended period of time.

Why would anybody need to do this? You do not have to removing the cover to set timing. All you need is a proper timing light and the instructions. CAS adjustment is just like moving a distributor. There is no way to set it without a light.

Removing the stock BCS does nothing more than eliminate the factory bleed in the wastegate control system (control, not the gate itself). You will run whatever the spring/diaphragm is (less than with the BCS). The purpose of the BCS is to lower boost if the ECU sees detonation because of low octane fuel etc. You have that removed already so you're already at lower boost. Won't hurt a thing.

Correction on my part the camshaft gear cover. The OP can do it with out pulling the cover and go off of the crank shaft pulley but sometimes the rubber slips and does not give an accurate reading and it's a pain to see with all the crap in the way. So he just takes off the 3 10mm bolts holding the camshaft gear cover and gets a good look at his ignition timing when adjusting.
