I have a question about the KMV brackets for the Brembo swap. In the write up it says to buy a tap 14mm x 1.5 (impossible to find btw) and tap the knuckle that the bracket bolts to, however my brackets are already tapped in 14mm x 1.5 in that hole themselves? why would I want to then tap the same hole in the actual steering knuckle with that size? the bolt would not possibly tighten down if I did that. It seems to me that I should drill the hole out in the knuckle so that the bolt can pass freely through it and then thread into the caliper adapter bracket instead?

You're correct that you only want ONE of those holes tapped. There are pros/cons to either one, but the big advantage to tapping the knuckle is it gives you the option of grinding down the caliper the least amount and I don't think anyone would argue that grinding down a caliper as little as possible is a GOOD thing.

So if I wanted to tap the knuckle then I should drill out the threaded area in the bracket then so that the bolt can pass through it then?

Yup.

There is 1 hole already tapped in the bracket. Do I have to tap the knuckle?
Only one of the holes needs to be tapped: either the hole in the bracket or the hole in the knuckle. If both happen to be tapped, one should be drilled out with a larger drill to eliminate the thread. Which hole should be the tapped hole? It depends on quite a few things, but in the end, it's more personal preference than anything.

I drilled out my knuckle, but theres no way that the bolt head will fit/clear going through that way? not sure whether to do an insert now to replace the threads in the knuckle or what.

That's correct, the caliper won't clear without grinding some of it down. The Brembo upgrade can't be done using the stock knuckles without grinding down something (either the caliper or the knuckle or both). I don't want to go into the entire upgrade here, there's quite a few threads on this forum somewhere explaining everything.[DOUBLEPOST=1415849385][/DOUBLEPOST]
Is it bad if both are tapped?
Kind of. They won't ever be tight against each other, there would always be a small gap.

Why would the brackets be tapped already if I had to tap the knuckle ear anyway? I have looked at the brembo install threads multiple times. I guess the bracket being tapped is new? It wasn't tapped for the install threads?

Exactly, the current writeup does not cover any of these issues.
You may have to sift through a bunch of lame-ass threads on the Brembo upgrade, but the info's out there. I suspect there's a lot of guys out there that have convinced themselves the Brembo upgrade can be achieved as a simple bolt on affair on a DSM. It can't. Sure, it's simple "bolt on" if you change your steering knuckles. But that's not what most guys have in mind when they throw the term "bolt on" around, is it? Adding to the problem is the fact that a lot of guys trying to sell something (brackets in this case) will tell you whatever you want to hear as long as they make the sale.
