CTS-V Brembo with 14" rotors bracket attemp

kmv - Will you be keeping the OEM brake master cylinder or changing it out for something else?

Anybody have any luck ordering the calipers using the part numbers in the first post? The first one had a P/N change but I was still able to add it to my list; but the second one said no longer available. The dealer said they didn't have anything show up under them at all.

well we gotta find out the piston diameter of the rears is then and what the spacing is from bolt hole to hole.

There 28/32mm and there are 4 piston and bolt spacing is 120mm, i have these rear cailipers. They do require 1.1" thick rotors and evo rear are .9" . I was wondering what would happen if you run thinner rotor than the calipers orignal spec. like runnning cobra 1.10" rotors on ctsv front brembo which was meant for 1.3" thick rotor?

So nobody has tried ordering these calipers from anywhere? The places I've called all say they only sell rebuilt ones but don't stock them; so I'd have to send in existing ones to be refurbished.

For my 1G AWD, I bought the CTSV Brembo calipers from GMpartsdirect.com part# 89047726 and 89047727. They are $130 each. I used Kmv's bracket kit he offers and I bought Evo X rotors. Everything fits good. As far as wheels...you need to run a set up that is designed and offset to clear big brakes like Evo X's, STI's and 370Z's...so mostly concave wheels. Pics shortly.

You might want to compare fluid volume of our twin pistons vs the fixed-4's (diameter). The CTSV is a much heavier car than a Talon. In order to meet FMVSS "failed booster" test they (GM) must size the pistons/master cylinder/pedal-ratio/rotor-effective-radius/static-loaded-tire-radius correctly. My guess is the CTSV has larger pistons. If this is correct, then when the pads are worn-down the stock DSM master cylinder may not have enough fluid to compensate (potential loss of braking).

Again, this is speculation. Measuring the piston diameters and comparing them to your starting point is necessary. Generally, a set of calipers from a similar weight vehicle will be close.

(only combined area for one piston set is used. The two vs four does not come into play for volume calculations, since our floating caliper pistons take the movement for both inner & outer pads)

Don't scare the poor guy with your speculation, people have been running evo calipers on DSM since 2005.

I have measured the ctsv, evo x and evo 8 calipers, they all have the same 44/40 mm piston bore.
I heard the stock twin pistons are 42 mm each, please correct me if I'm wrong.

I think that looks fantastic, sir

Did you happen to weigh the individual pieces before installing them? Thanks!

Can you speculate whether (or not) this would happen very slowly as the pads wear thin?

Evo curb weight :3300lbs
CTS-V curb weight 4250lbs

A cts-v is almost 1000lbs heavier than a fully loaded 2g AWD much less a FWD 1g. Evos and dsm's are much closer in weight. It might be something to look into.

99% of people dont and will never need brakes like this but I wont start that argument, just validate a good question.

You forgot to mention that cts-v has more rear brake bias since its rwd. They have 4 piston rear on 14.4" rotors.

What I meant was that I have measured the ctsv, evo x and evo 8 calipers, they all have the same 44/40 mm piston bore. Basically they all share the same front callipers combo with different rotors size. Rotors size are 12.6"(evo8),13.8"(evoX) and 14"(cts-v) but I wont start this argument.

^ thats not an argument thats an answer, you just didnt say CTS-V in the previous post. Those are some SERIOUS brakes, Id love to see how it feels on the limit.

What do you think of the setup so far? Have you gotten to drive it around yet? Post how braking feels now as compared to before. Thanks!

I have been reading all about this swap and a buddy of mine has a cts-v and i was looking at it and it seems that the rear calipers are larger. i found a spec sheet for the front brakes on ls1 tech but i cant seem to find one for the rears? they also seem to be less expensive, here is the part number: 89047742

What do you guys think?

I wouldn't believe that. As far as I know Brembo does not offer technical drawings of OEM Brembo calipers. All I have seen are the technical drawings for aftermarket and racing calipers.
Point two, the technical drawing is of this caliper-

That caliper is the front caliper used in the Brembo aftermarket big brake kits for the S2000 and 2g DSM. Just a quick glance at the pictures posted and you realize that the OEM CTS-V calipers and the Brembo 20.5187.30/40 are different.
Point three, the CTS-V calipers are a lug mount style caliper and the Brembo 20.5187.30/40 is a radial mount. That's why we have Flash looking out for fellow DSMer's. ;)

Ok so I started driving the car with the stock 1" master cylinder. It's mushy as hell. I had already planned on upgrading the master cylinder but I just wanted to see how it was with our stock one. I put in a 1 1/16" master cylinder out of a 2000-something galant, bled it and they feel great. The brake pedal feel is a little more stiff then the stock 2 piston calipers but like anything else, after a few days you get used to it. For the die hard track guys...no I don't track my car or intend to. I daily drive it. I just wanted to have a little more braking power, look good behind the wheels, and do something different. I'm thinking of making brackets for the rear to run the matching 4 piston rears. I'm just not sure yet on how I'm going to have an e-brake with them.

That seems to be the master cylinder you used here is the link for everyone else.

Mechanical Parking Brake Calipers

Seems like this would work to make the back calipers work on the dsms it will just need a way of mounting it too.:thumb:
I'd probably run four front calipers and the same rotors all around being that the cts-v's rear calipers are bigger and they might be harder to clear.
Then buy the mechanical ebrake in the link i found then find a way of mounting it in the rear and boom you have four piston calipers all around and ebrake still.
Just makes more sense to me to do it this way since we already know the rotor, caliper and wheel size that work together.

kmv any thoughts on making this bracket for the rear that mounts both the mechanical ebrake and ctsv caliper
