I was just finishing up an engine rebuild. I put in a Topline oil pump. Brand new no miles. Along with the BS elimination kit.
I went to prime the motor tonight. The method I use is with everything bolted up just take out plugs and injectors and watch for the oil to come up to the lifter and such.
I cranked the motor over many many times. No oil. Finally I went to the oil filter housing and there is no oil in the filter aside from the little bit I put in when installing the filter. I'm at a loss. Could this pump be bad from the beginning? I can't think of any other logical reason.
Any input would be great.
Thanks.

yeah youve got something going on there.

1. Usually pack the oil pump gear housing with grease
2. pick-up tube installed with new gasket and rtv as it has to be sealed

It takes a while. I spun mine with a highpower drill, otherwise you can pull the break booster thing off the back of the intake manifold, screw it into the oil pressure sender's hole and prime with a hand pump.

If you packed the oil pump gears with either grease or vaseline and Installed new pickup tube gasket with rtv I would guess you havent turned it enough to get the oil through. It takes a while with a drill so Id guess it takes just as long or longer by cranking.
Did you makes sure the oil holes for the b/s bearings didn't line up with the oil holes in the block when you did the BSE?

I prefer packing with vaseline. I would also suggest you DEBURR the gears if you havent also. They can cut them selves right into the case.

I did a motor last winter and I noticed it took a while for this motor to prime for some reason. Like a solid 45secs or more.

First problem is topline. Why put so much money into a rebuild just to have some china made oil pump ruin it all. I always use oem oil pumps. Wouldn't trust my engine to anything less. No the less you aren't creating enough vacuum to pull oil from the pan. Either you split the gasket on the pickup tube or you aren't spinning the oil pump fast enough. Try using a hand drill. Check your oil pump gears for timing issues between the gears.

The oil pick up is installed with gasket and rtv. But I did not pack the gears with grease. Forgot that part. And I made sure the old BS bearings did not line up the oil holes. I was really hoping not to have to do the drill method since my timing belt is already on but I guess there is no other choice.
And when I said I cranked it over I mean I did about ten second cranks with a minute break to let the starter cool. I did this for roughly 30 minutes.

You NEED to prime the system manually. I made the same mistake as you. I lubed my oil pump put it all together, cranked it over by hand, disabled the PCM, pulled the plugs and cranked it over with the starter. After 40 seconds I decided that was too long without oil.

I went to my local auto supply store and bought a squirt can and filled it with 20w50. Next I pulled the 17mm fitting at the top of the motor and drained the full squirt can into the oiling system. Finally I cranked it over with the starter and I had pressure building within 10 seconds.

Any time you tare one of these down and work on the lubrication system, prime it manually either through the top plug or the oil pressure sender on the oil filter housing.

Or..... you can just take your oil filter off and fill it slam full of oil and put it back on and crank. This worked for me and my buddy the other night in a last attempt to get oil pressure! SCARY

I have oil pressure.
All I did was pressurize the system amd cramk it over while adding the compressed air. And what do ya know got oil pressure in a few seconds.

But now I have another problem I am not getting any spark at all.

PCM fuse put back in the correct spot?

Crank and cam position sensor plugged in?

Ignition final stage and coils plugged in?

Final stage and coil packs grounded properly? (not sitting on a freshly painted bracket)

That's all I can think of right now.
