so i finished my build... or so i thought... and i went to prime the motor and the oil pump seized up causing my timing to jump and whatnot...
took off the head and all of the valves are good still.. for some reason a guy at my machine shop recommended a particular oil pump/ front case to me that he claimed held up great on his talon build. though i was skeptic i went with it, considering the savings... well needless to say that was obviously a mistake because it failed before the car even ran.

my mechanic is worried about the rotating assembly, but i told him that i have the bse kit and nothing should be caught up in assembly... right?
now my question is... does the bse kit have anything to do in deciding which oil pump i should go with?

As long as plenty of assembly lube was used, there shouldnt be anything wrong... however it never hurts to double check

What kind of BSEK did you use? From what ive gathered non-OEM Stubby shafts are known to cause oil pump failures since there is no oiling grove... But then again Non-OEM oil pumps are known to fail regardless

BSEK's should fit any correct oilpump

i dont want to sound like a complete idiot... but i have no idea LOL.. the machine shop recommended it to me back when i knew little about these cars LOL..
i remember reading about the am oil pump problems with the stubby shafts... but its kinda ridiculous how it seized up before it ran...

well i may be able to get a refund for the oil pump...
now should i go with oem front case... pump... and gears?
since i have bse will i need anything special?
sorry... im just a little off..

*Update*
well i have some news. turns out the machine shop forgot to put a bolt on for the stubby shaft in the oil pump so it was knocked off balance when i started building pressure and caused the pump to seize.
well i took off the pump and the machine shop reassembled the pump.. ensured that nothing was wrong with it and i put it back on.. put it on timing and the thing fired right up!
finally my 5 month build is done!
so far:
6 bolt block
stock 6 bolt crank
clevite bearings
arp head and main studs
eagle h beam rods
arias pistons .020 over
bse

soon i will be building my head to make way for a 35r!

my advise, if its not a Mitsubishi or eagle oil pump, gears etc. Take them out and throw them on the ground and do burn outs on them. Why risk your entire engine on some silly shit like that. And if the thing fell apart and seized then there is going to be a problem later. Parts don't just magically unseize themselves and work fine. I would also fire them and get someone else to do work like that. I mean come on, oops I left something loose? I have been building race cars and airplanes (for my job) for like 10 years. How many times do you think I left something loose? 0 times... Check compression and make sure you don't have a bent valve also(from the timing belt skipping) .

well yeah duh.. LOL of course im being over cautious with it now.. it was pretty lame on their part... valves are good. the motor sounds strong. just cant drive it yet because of a stubborn axle.. but once i can get it out and put a new hub and axle on i can break it in and get some info.. and actually "feel" things.
