How to check oil pump before install?

Ok I've been buyin parts to do my 6 bolt build for my 93 tsi I have everything I need to put it back together except for a new oil pump an a balance shaft eliminator kit and my funding kinda ran out, so my question is, is there anyway I can check my old oil pump to see if it's still in good shape an goin to produce good oil pressure? I really need to get the car together because I got a new job an need a veihicle but I dont wanna ruin my hole build that Ive spent so much time an money on, any advice is appreciated thanks.

Do you have a service manual? The factory manual shows the way to measure the side clearance on the gears for the pump to housing to determine if the clearance is acceptable (will provide good pressure and not worn). You should also check the shaft and the bore in the pump housing for any scoring and scratches.

You have a 93 car but you're building a 6 bolt. I'm assuming the 93 had the original engine. If that's true you have a 7 bolt oil pump which won't bolt to a 6 bolt block.
