How to check 14b before purchase?

Hello, please excuse me if this is a duplicate, but I tried to search and couldn't find anything.

I am about to buy a used 14b, and I wanted to know how I can:
1) verify if it's a genuine 14b (serial numbers, inducers)?
2) if it's in a usable condition (freeplay, cracks)?

Maybe someone has a bookmark for these topics, the tech section doesn't seem to mention them, and search about 14b brings up experiences and HP threads for me...

As far as checking for play, just grab the nut in the center and gently push it side to side.
