how do i check if my oil pump is bad its a brand new oil pump which i had installed by a pro mechanic that has worked on these cars for 15 years. his shop is kinda far and im limited on cash so i cant take it out there for him to look at so im on my own. when he first put it on i was there and when i would spin the pulley by hand it was smooth but there wasnt oil in it at that time ### he just installed it and now i was putting the car in time and when i went to turn it, it was a little harder to move and sorta felt like it might have been grinding. when i turn it the mark is lined up and when i turn it starting a full rotation it is hard to turn the after a quarter turn it loosens up and is easy to turn then at the same point becomes hard again. how do i know if it needs replaced. i mean it doesnt even have 2 miles on it.

was it an itm pump or oem pump? check for a burr where the drive/driven gears are. also is it a possibilty that the timing belt was overtensioned?

it wasnt over tensions it was actually loose and i dont have it off because i dont have the money to replace the oil pan gasket right now.

Are you saying it's hard to turn with the timing belt installed? The way you're describing sounds like you have the belt on now, and that would be your engine's compression :thumb: And +1 for RTV, from the factory our cars don't/didn't have pan gaskets.

if the belt is on and the plugs are in the resistance you feel is the compression. if the belt is off and you are just spinning the oil pump sprocket by hand and have resistance, then you have a problem.

If your timing belt is on your going to have some resistance when turning the motor by hand. If the plugs are in the motor your going to have even more resistance turning the motor by hand.
If you do not have balance shafts then my suggestion is if your not willing to pull the front case off and inspect the gears then at the very least pull off the timing belt and spin the oil pump with a impact gun. Remove the valve cover first then spin the oil pump with the impact gun, after a few seconds you should start to see oil hit the head. If so, then your oil pump is working properly.
