Everyone,

I've been working on this damn car awhile now and have the front case off so I decided I would check the tolerances on the oil pump gears. In the service manual it doesn't say where along the ridge to run the feeler gauge specifically like the haynes manual does. When I check the tip clearance about the center of the gear it is too tight even for the tightest standard, if I start the feeler gauge around the driven gear and run it along the drive gear I can fit a pretty large feeler in there which takes it past the service limit. Does that mean that I need to replace the gears?

Thanks,

Steve

"MOST" of the time it is not the gears that are worn as they are made from steel and the case is aluminum. pull the gears and check for wear marks. mainly from where the gear has been riding on the case.
