have a question about my oil pump? how do i know if my oil pump has gone bad? does it make a grinding sound, i was told that it does sometime.. but im not sure.
I have video of this sound so if someone wants to host let me know

Thanks, Anthony

I tried "snapping the throttle open in neutral from idle to about 4500rpm and then keep hitting the gas in an on/off manner to keep it at 4500ish for 5-7 seconds. then shut the car off for a few mins and repeat the process a few times"

The noise never went away but got noticably quieter. Unfortunately after about 5 starts and revs I started to get my oil pressure back to H.

I've decided since I have it all apart anyways, ill take the timing belt off again, and going to pull the oil pump and replace it.

Hopefully this can solve my oil pressure issues. Reliability is paramount to me here, and I really dont want to undo anything Ive done by breaking it.

Anyone have any suggestions for specific setups? From some extensive searching it looks to me so far like I'll be doing something like:
-Oil Pressure (or temp or both?) Gauge
-New Oil Pump
-Oil Cooler
-Port the oil relief housing on my new pump
-balance shaft delete
-Bigger oil filter (moved to be further from the exhaust manifold)

That should hopefully get my issues well under control, unless theres something im missing

Changing the oil pump is not going to stop the lifters from ticking. If you have 80% on PSI then you should be getting plenty of oil going to them. As far as oil pressure, are you saying that the oil is at zero till it warms up then rides at 80%? Or does it only sit high in high RPMs?

If it's only at high RPM then you may have a blockage. *Bearings, Seals and other passageways* Then again you might even have a bad sending unit. Because you have a new PCV valve the pressure in your crank case is relieved. Which rules out that issue. If the oil pump is going out, you would usually have an issue building pressure. Think about the properties of metal too. When it is hot it expands and when cold it contracts. So by heating the engine, you could open the passage way that is blocked.

Best bet at this point is to rent a mechanical oil pressure gauge. Check to see if your sending unit is bad. But the ticking will not go away.

In my infinite wisdom when I first bought this car I am ashamed to say I actually bought a a/f gauge shortband(never bothered hooking it up) and a boost gauge that Im not too fond of (goes to 50psi but no -'s)... so Im in the process of trying to get rid of it, and I mite as well get a mech oil gauge anyways, its a good thing to have, and a hell of alot better then a shortband

if i were you i would cut that old oil filter apart to make sure there wasn't anything in there that was blocking it.

also i would make sure 110% that the oil passage holes in the block are clean.

a larger oil filter does not change oil pressure but just gives you a bigger trap/surface area to collect particles and dirt in your oil.

also there is a secondary oil pressure regulator bolted down with three bolts in the head that regulates supply feed to part of the head. i would unbolt that and check it out.
