I bought a new oil pump from "MAP" and installed it and right at start up the da*n oil pump seizes up causing the oil pump sprocket and to come off.. I took it off and put my old oil pump back on. The only reason why I took it off was to have legit oil pressure. Just to my luck that this F***ing pump is shyt! any suggestions/theory what happened to that "map"oil pump?

Heres the a quick pic I took:

For one, was it an OEM pump or was it a Topline pump?

I had a Topline pump in my car when I bought it....the driven gear wiggled around like hell and oil pressure wasn't right.

So I bought ANOTHER Topline and got an OEM stubby shaft, etc. and installed it all. After I put it together, I spun it and made sure it cleared well.

The Topline pumps have clearance issues, and if you're not careful, you will kill the pump. Always check these things before install. PACK IT WITH A TON OF MOLY GREASE.

Prime the engine with a high speed drill after you install it. Disconnect the fuel pump and crank the engine over a few times before starting the car. THEN start the car.

It could be anything man....maybe you didn't prime the pump before starting your car. Maybe you didn't check the clearance on the stubby shaft (assuming you have BSE.) Maybe you didn't tighten the bolts down good enough....

Packed it with moly grease and did prime the pump... I bought the OEM pump. I guess that pump was just not meant to run. Oh wells thanks for the info though.. I appreciate it.. :thumb:

Pull it apart if you can and post a pic of the gears and shafts. New gears need there oil passages cleaned out or they dont get oil to the main shaft of the drive gear as I have seen first hand new OEM drive gear had metal shavings logged in the oil passage for the shaft that would block oil getting to the shaft..
It doesnt matter who you bought the pump from as an oil pump failure is an instalation error 99% of the time were the parts were not cleaned completly, or the gears were not pre lubed (primed) before starting the engine.
From the pick you posted I can see the oil pump drive gear shaft seized inside the case itself causing the oil pump sproket to break off.

^^^What he said....99% it is installation error. You are responsible for checking clearances and everything before installation.

I would've gotten new gears instead of reusing the old ones (if you didn't)

An oil pump I bought before had metal shavings all over it...brand spanking new too. I cleaned it up, flushed all the shavings out, etc. etc. before even thinking of installing the gears.

Did you use the OEM stubby shaft?
