Hey im new at this and i saw mulitple threads about the oil pump but not on my question. I dont know that much about my car only what my mechanic tells me, Buts on that note, I crank my car it idels at 1k and then after about 5min on its start to bog down and the rpms shot up and then back down until it cuts off. My mechanic said i only have 25 pounds of oil pressure and that i need 60 is it my pump that i need to change or could there be more to it, oh and my crankshaft A sensor went out also. Its been a 2 year project and i dont want it to take any longer soooo if you guys can help me tell me what it could be and if you have any for sale at a decent price going to the mitsu dealer its gonna be 300 i dont have that kinda money off hand.

15-25 oil pressure at idle is normal, +10-15 psi per 1000rpms, so revving at 3000rpm you should have somewhere around 50psi...60psi at idle is ridiculous, your car probably dies because you need that crank angle sensor, thats a necessity in your 97. Your car has a Cam position sensor which is on the left side of the valve cover, and a crank angle sensor behind the timing cover. These both effect timing and spark.

Dont let him tell you anything about your oil pump. ###### trying to rip you off.

Happens too often. What would the mechanic have told you after he replaces your oil pump for $900 and still you get 25psi at idle?

Time for a new engine? LOL cocksuckers

so the crank A sensor is the problem all along with my rpms jumping around its crazy i just want my car done. Or do you guys think theres anything else, and he was gonna change my pump for 150, just got off the phone with him he said it doesnt move period it stays at 25psi??

do you have an aftermarket oil pressure gauge or what? If its still stock it could be stuck, not moving, sender could be messed up, etc. If he has manually hooked up a pressure gauge to one of the un-used ports off you OFH and that doesnt move when he revs it, thats a problem. Ive never seen an oil pump that has 25psi at idle, and then doesnt move any more than that while rpms go up.

and yes if you have a CEL for your crank angle sensor it needs to be replaced. Im surprised your car even starts.

Well heres the thing, I go drive the 40 miles to where my car is at, supposed to pick it up yesterday. Get the hope right in and start it, rev it up cause i havent seen her in a while, and then pop the hood cause i wantted to see the work done to it. After about 5-10min my car thens starts to act funny, up and down RPM's and then click car turns off, tried a couple of times to turn it back on then check engine light comes on. He hooks it up to the little hand held computer and it said crankshaft sensor A malfunctioning. But befor then he said my oil pump wasnt working right but i dont know how he checked it.Hmmmm im just so lost. And no i dont have an aftermarket gauge, I need to get one dont I LOL

no you dont have to get a aftermarket gauge, just sit in "your" car and watch the oil pressure needle move when you rev the car, dont let the mechanic tell you.

Yes, you need a new crank angle sensor. If thats the code that came up, its defective or your wirings messed (doubt it).

Ok he just called me saying when he took it for a test drive, went floored it comes to a stop car turns off again. This is befor everything.I just got my whole car re-built and i just want to get it back. Is there anything else that could be wrong with it doing the RPM jump arounds? I just have simple bolt on upgrades. Nothing extreme.
