I have a 1998 eclipse 2.0L non turbo. The brake lights randomly started staying on. I found the plastic plug at the brake pedel switch missing and readjusted the switch to work. Now all works well with head lights off. When I turn on the headlights the brake lights come on and stay on as well. Also the door buzzer sounds with the door open and the brake pedel is pushed. The buzzer will not sound with the door open unless the brake pedel is pushed or the switch is unplugged.
Also when I went to get a new brake pedel switch, I found that my switch is from a 2000 eclipse and my car is a 1998.
One other issue I know about is on of the four brake light bulb sockets is damaged and the bulb is not making full contact with the connector in the bulb socket. There is some contact as the bulb will light slightly but not bright.
Thanks for any help. I have read many threads with similar but not exact issues. This forum has been a wealth of information.

ive had similar issues with other vehicles, but not with my eclipse.

I would start by fixing the socket for the bulb first, and get a good connection so its as bright as the others, and even the field.

Then I would get the correct brake light switch. It sounds as if some wires underneath are crossed or installed wrong, which could be if someone installed the wrong switch on the wrong vehicle. I would imagine the 2000 is completely different than the 98. If you can get the right one it should fix the lights at the very least.. then u can move on to diagnosing the buzzer issue.

Also check the fuse for brakes, and which ever controls buzzer.. im not for certain but its possible they may share a fuse, or be close to each other in the fuse block, and one fuse may be burnt up/ drawing too much power etc... cant hurt to make sure all that is fine as well tho..

Im not a dsm pro.. just trying to give some help in the right direction. Good luck!
