I have a 91 laser rs turbo fwd. my problems is the same for alot of people in here and read alot about it and did alot of checking on my car. well my car starts to surge (jerk) back and forth when i get around 6 pounds of boost only on first and second gear, and the other problem is probably related which i think it is, its that when i finished boosting then come to a full stop it idles very low like 400-500 rpms or sometimes just die and i have to restart the car.

so what I have done is change the spark plugs and wires, there both ngk, plugs are the 6 version. I'm not venting, i check my spark plug wires and i do have spark on all 4. i check all hoses and lines and connections everything looks fine. I think my isc is working cuase when i unplug it my car starts to idle higher, then when i plug it, it idles fine. i have new fuel filter, new air filter. the wastegate actuator arm is connected and its tight.

i really think i have a boost leak, i made a tester from the website thats u guys allways put up. i made 2 of them cause i thought i did the first on wrong or something. Its simple to make so im sure i made it right, but everytime i go to pump some air into it with a bike pump, no air wants to go in. its hard to pump air in, its like it doesnt want to go in and it pushes it back out, so i pump it hard and what happens is that the tester start to leak air through the valve, i put glue all around the valve and it still leaks through the tester. what am i doing wrong. this problem is driving me crazy.

sorry for the long message and sorry i never introduced myself, Im Pipos.

sorry me again, the title suppose to say boost leak tester not working for me. i mention before that my boost only goes to 6psi on first and second gear and then it surges or jerks what ever its called, but on the rest of the gears it goes up to 7psi and stays there, no surging or jerking, but i really dont feel much power on higher gears. whats stock boost on 1gen, i thought it suppose to be from 8-12 psi. i had to mechanics tell me stock only goes up to 7 psi thank alot...

I made a boost leak testor with the nipple for a bike pump and got nowhere with it. I got a threaded 1/4 pressure fitting and threaded it into the PVC cap. I've had no problems testing with that...only problem with that is you need an air compressor.

Not sure about your problem, but can you hear any hissing when you boost? Have you checked the IC pipes for any obvious leaks?

i made my tester rubber coupler and pvc cap with a car stem (valve), and i put glue all around it to make sure it wont leak. but when i pump with the bike pump its hard to pump it. i have to really pump it hard for air to go in, i cant even do one pump with out forcing it, is it suppose to be like that, or it suppose to pump eaisly. but the only air i hear coming out is from the tester i made. i made 2 of them and the same thing happens. what if i dont have a boost leak, maybe thats y its giving me this problem, but i dont think its that cause i cant even pump air in to let me know its leaking or not. thanks

i check the ic pipes. I took them off and put them back on to make sure there on right, everything looks ok. i dont hear a hissing sound when i boost but i do hear a little whistle sound, but i think thats the turbo right. or is it not suppose to do that.

Pumping should not take that much. Check to make sure your valve is not plugged with the glue you were using and/or try pumping it with it off the car.

If you don't have access to a compressor.. pick up one of those $20 Wal-Mart cigarette lighter pumps.

The Idle problem is likely your ICS. Remove and clean out with carb cleaner and a q-tip.

oh yea.. welcome to DSMTalk :talon:

i did try the tester with it off the car and it works perfectly fine. for the ics u think it might be dirty and its working but not the way its suppose to.. cause i disconnect it, it made a difference in my car, it made it idle higher, then when i plug it back it was back to the same ilding problem i have. dont that show that its working. or maybe not. thanks for the help

It's not a matter if it working or not.. just that the seat the needle inside the ISC seats against tends to gum up preventing it from operating it's whole range.

I believe the ISC when unplugged will fail open which will cause the high idle you saw.

alright im gonna try to fix the ISC today, for my surging problem im gonna have to keep looking around my car to find out the problem, hopefully i'll find it, thanks alot DSM90AWD and BLACKGSX2G.
