Bleeding my 2g lifters. Can I pull more than 1 at a time, or will that jack with timing/cam position? I have to be in class at 12:30 pm tomorrow. I plan on jumping in the car here in about 30 min after its cooled down.

If I pull the lifters and let soak over night, get up early (around 10 am) and take them out of the carb cleaner and reinstall, will that be sufficient?

I am in kind of a rush. There is a meet tomorrow night, and I will be attending. Just getting tired of the obnoxious lifters, and think it could be causing phantom knock.

Any advice? How many lifters can I pull at once to be safe? All 16? I plan to let it soak in carb cleaner atleast 12 hours, is that long enough?

Well you can only do the ones with the valves closed right. So you have to do a few then put them back then rotate the motor you get the point. But you can pull all the ones at one time that are closed and not hurt anything makes the job slightly faster. You can pull them all at once if you take the timing belt off and remove the cams!

Thanks for the reply.

I figured this much, and so, have already started. I was able to pull all but 4, which are being blocked in by the cam lobes. I will just have to sit the car for a day so that these can soak and be reinstalled, and the others pulled. So far so good... just need another can of carb cleaner and I spent the last of my coin on books and gas :/

Oh well. Im having a lot of fun :)

Cant wait to see if theres any noticeable difference in the operation of the car. My lifters were ticking bad... I mean BAD. Especially on cold/first starts.

Ill keep you guys posted!

Ya please don't rush bro take your time. If the lifter isn't bleed right you could bend valves!! But that being said it should take over night to get them right! But I don't even mess with the stockers I have 3g's in all my cars.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

I know once they are done soaking, run cleaner through them good then I drain and let them dry. Then submerge in clean oil, pump till full, then pump empty and install.. right? I wont rush that process. I just need to get these things cleanER and back on. :p

How should I go about getting the other 4 out if I dont have the 17mm bar to turn the crank? Has anyone ever turned the car on and back off to do that? With all 16 lifters/rockers in ofc.

No just might spray alittle Oil into the air but other than that you don't need to. You can always just set it in place to keep it from spraying.

True that.

Oh, hold up. I gotta good picture for you guys.

Noticed when I pulled this one it didnt look and feel like the rest. See the lip? Its kinda dented in with an abrasion of some sort.. hmm.

Think im going to grab a file and smooth it out before reinstalling.

Huh well the stock lifters have a really tiny hole in the top and the revised have a large hole. From the picture you posted the hole looks large like the 3G revised lifters. Do all the lifters have the large hole?

Hmmm seems they got replaced at one point in time then. Unless 98's came with the revised lifters but I don't think so. My 98 talon didn't come with a motor so I couldn't look to tell you if mine did or not. What weight oil do you use in your car 20w50 likey your profile says?

Update... GOt all on but 4, which are physically impossible.

Do I need to get a bar adn turn the crank? Is this okay with 4 rockers not on?

Side observation... Im noticing little pieces of metal up and inside the head... One of the oil passages looks like it has little pieces of metal growing on it? Best way to put it.

You could try to bump the motor over using the starter. Should work fine if you can get it where you need it.

Pull the MPI fuse so it doesn't kick on.

Pictures are your bestfriends, I don't think any of us have seen growing metal. Could just be the rough casting?

Could be. It is kind of irrating though >.< If I were to drop something a tad bit smaller than a rocker arm, it may have very well broken a nice chunk off into the oil passage. It actually does look like rough casting.

Update on the lifters. Got them all back in. Wish I would have had a 1/2" drive before I started reinstalling. There were a few that were extra annoying because the cam lobes.

All in all im glad I got it done. The car purrs quieter than ever before and feels like spool starts earlier and overall the car is just running more smooth. Oh and the knock up top of 3rd/4th is gone, which is why I decided to bleed the lifters in the first place... No obnoxious ticking on cold starts anymore.. pretty cool.

Oh and I made it to class on time :p

That is cast flashing, if it has not busted off by now, doubt it will.

It just slows the oil return to the pan.

A die grinder and a few mins of work will remove it, has to be done off the car .
