My biss will not come out. it screws out so far than stops I tried to use a flat head screwdriver to slide down under the head to pull/pry it up and it didn't work any suggestions?

I'm trying to get it out to put a new o ring on.

well i just did mikes idea and boost leak tested the system and the biss screw shoot out at me like a bullet. it scared the crap out of me :shhh: ! i was very lucky that it hit the hood and fell on the intake manifold.it probably wasnt the best idea but it worked none the less.

i dont know why you guys would go out and buy the seal from mach V for all that $$$. i just purchased a o-ring kit a little while back for 5 bucks to replace my injector seals. i just used a smaller o ring that came with the kit to replace it and it seems to hold boost just fine :thumb:

thanks for all the replies
David

oOo yeah, i dont remember the exact size of the o ring but it can be found at www.plymouthlaser.com

Hey for all the guys doing this (and I'm sure there are many) I wanted to add a couple notes here for you.

First off, you don't need to buy the BISS online, you can pick it up at your local mitsu dealer with the o-ring for under $5. If your local dealer doesn't have it, they will have it shipped in to them within a few days.

Secondly, for me, neither the razor blade or the super glue concept worked for removal of the BISS. I pressurized the UICP and as mentioned previously it shot out like a bullet. Though this did work, I had to slightly dremel the inside edge with the BISS threaded the whole way down first.

Even though it required a few parts it still beat taking the throttle body off etc.
:dsm:

i would say the best way to get it out is to just take the throttle body off. doing a boost leak test can probably end up with you getting a biss screw getting stuck in your eye LOL

i think the o-ring is shot as the screw moves around quite easily. i was just curious as to whats the best way to remove it? i wish it was metal then it would be quite easier with a magnet!

something like a the other side of a pen, and some super glue??? No, that might not be a good idea, something sticky that can be easily cleaned off.

Unscrew it all the way then boost leak test it and it will come out enough to grab it. Just make sure your hands by it or it will fall into the engine bay and might be lost.

Ahh, see this is a good method, Ive never tried this before.

Just fold a peice of tape inside out and stick it to the end of a pen or something and pull it out.:thumb:

I un-bent a paperclip and stuck some tape to it. Came right out.....

Or, if you feel like taking your throttle body apart, you could always drill 'er out. ;)

I have a serious leak in my BISS and when I tried to remove it and replace the ring the screwdriver threads just crumbled. How in the world am I gonna get that thing out?

Try Easy-Out or screw-extractor. Suks man:notgood:

I don't think I could weld it, it's plastic. I don't know why they wanted to use a plastic screw though, that's why this happens! So an easy out would be my best bet?

This happened to me as well.. It gave me the perfect reason to swap out my 2G TB for a larger 1G. I never did get that BISS out of the 2G either.. Stupid plastic screws.

Did you have to fabricate anything to do that? or is it "plug and play"!

1g TB in a 2g

It looks like there's a little massaging involved; not just plug and play, unfortunately. :(

To the OP, I just changed out my BISS for a new one last night. The thought occurred to me of what I would have done if it had broken or the head stripped on it. An Easy-out occurred to me, as well as using a small amount of JB Weld an old screwdriver tip to it. My o-ring was totally flattened against the screw itself, so the screw came out very easily. I guess since the screw is plastic, and Easy-Out might not work correctly. If all else fails, you could take the TB off the car and try to drill the screw out, but I'm not sure if that could cause problems.

If your desperate and don't want to spend money - Take the TB off the mani and there is a hole you can put a clothes pin or something through and it will push up the screw (but of course it has to be screwed up as far as it will go).

When mine was stripped while still in the TB i just muscled up and got it to turn. I used what little if any thread or bump i could and got her turning. Then refer to tip above.

Your could also pressurize the system and it'll shoot out haha have fun with that one. Of course unscrewed as much as possible before take off

This is on a 1g, I wouldn't know if the 2g's are set up the same.
