got a 7 bolt FWD turbo and cant find a straight answer on what tranny fluid to use. everyone points to redline mt90 but some say its overkill for 2-300 hp motors.

car is mostly stock w/ intake & filter, plugs/wires, Valvoline vr1 motor oil, 3" downpipe + full 3" catback.

can someone please give me a straight answer on what tranny fluid so i can order it up and get it in the car. i live in texas where the lowest temp is nothing crazy.

mobul 3000
redline mt90 or mt85
some other redline product?

i did try searching all morning but cant find an answer specific to a 2g fwd with minor mods.

The OEM fluid is Diaqueen. That should be plenty safe for your level of mods with those spark plugs and all. Redline also offers a Diaqueen equivalent (MT-85). Technically any GL-4 gear oil is appropriate. Do NOT run any GL-5 rated gear oil in there.

is there anything store bought at napa or az that will be good?

don't be lazy

i went to the dealership and this is what they sold to me

out of curiosity what are the dangers of gl-5?

Use nothing but Diaqueen or Redline MT85/90. I would suggest reading Oil-Jacks Transmissions LLC

DO NOT use Synchromesh, BG Synchroshift I or II, or Royal Purple. These fluids will destroy synchros and gears and void your warranty!

Absolutely DO NOT use Redline Shockproof in your transmission!

Shockproof is designed for ring and pinions found in t-cases and rear diffs, if you use it in your trans, you will break gears and ruin your synchros!

Use OEM Mitsubishi. STM can get you what you need.

Use GM synchromesh, best tranny fluid I've ever used shifted smooth as butter. I use it in all of my man trans! Any GM dealer will have it.

GL-5 fluids have sulpher in it which destroys the brass content of the syncros.

(On the topic of fluids) for the Chrysler tranny that sits behind a 420A : use only ATF+4 fluids since it needs the friction modifier that ATF+4 contains, for other fluids doesn't have this "FM" since Chrysler uses felt lined syncros.

That GM Syncromesh stuff is too thin for our turbo trannies. Sure, it makes a shift real smooth because there is hardly any viscosity (body) in the fluid.

I love my MT-90 usage .. cured a notchy and slightly grinding tranny.

I got it for $11 a quart at the dealership. Haha after some reading on jackstransmission's tech ane experiencing the price difference between mitsu gl4 and royal purple I would never consider anything but the oem gear oil.

redline mt 85. for a stock tranny. i know twicks69. he built my tranny. he owns tmz performance. hes the only guy i listen to. good luck hitting high rpm shifts with mt 90 in stock form. just my opinion

Stick with the OEM recommendations. I ended up with a hole the side of my fist in the bottom of a trans a few years back trying to be cheap. When it comes to fluids, timing belts and head gaskets go OEM unless your pushing high HP

my little brothers 97 gst has mt90 in it. he only has intake, full bolt ons, plugs and wires and it shifts like butter at 6 to 7 grand.

This may sound stupid and lazy but can we FWD use the 05 Evo MR OEM diaqueen tranny fluid?

Ok never mind. Based my reading on Jacks Transmissionn website it says DSM and didn't specify FWD or AWD so I got my answer which is we FWD can. Correct me if I am wrong.

That is correct. Jacks oil recommendations apply to FWD and AWD transmission. I even use Diaqueen in my Spyder GS (4g64) FWD transmission. The only transmissions this doesn't apply to are 420a and Automatic (of course).

I should have worded it better. My apologies. What I meant was keeping it together. From my understanding. Because of the tolerences in our synchros with tranny in stock form 90 wt gear oil may be to viscous to penetrate between the brass rings causing chatter and premature wear and failure to the hub and slider assembly. I know it runs awesome now but it wont hold up as well. As with everything sometimes bigger isnt better. Lol popouts in 2nd and 3rd suck a$$. Caused me to spend over 2grand on a tranny. But if u plan on big power u will need to upgrade anyway. But hey to each his own. My experience will differ from others. Only my recommendation. Good luck:thumb:

I apologize for reviving this thread but I was wondering if the "Red Line MT90 Transmission Fluid" also applies to an automatic transmission? I have the same vehicle which is a 97 Spyder GS-T 7 bolt but I wasn't sure if it is the same fluid for an automatic. The Jack's transmissions site does not specify. Also, is the amount the same as well? It states that I would need 2.5 to 3 quarts of oil. Thanks for all the help.
