transmission fluid install

is there a tech article or thread possibly on the proper way to install transmission fluid into a manual transmission? Maybe exactly how much to put in or whatever?

Fill it till it pours out of the filler screw. I use a $5 dollar hand pump from the parts store to pump it in...It works great!

I always take out the backup sensor and fill it directly from the top with a long narrow funnel.

If I was to do it from the top how will I know when there is enough fluid in it?
I have 3 bottles of fluid and am told thats enough for a transmission and transfer case if I had awd but im only fwd.
