Ok, I did a little searching and couldn't find enough info...

I'm running a MAF-T in blow through format...BOV is vented to atmosphere, leaving the inlet side of my turbo free and clear.

I'm tempted to grab a $20 "mushroom" type filter for its low profile, or possibly a 3" clamp K&N (not sure on length/diameter).

The turbo is a PTE SCM61 56trim, anyone have any experience or suggestions? I live in Texas and there is enough dust on the road to keep me from wanting to run an open inlet.

Please vote or post accordingly...I dont know if the foam elements, or even the K&N will flow enough air for my application....

Thanks in advance for any help.

Id advise staying away from foam filters like the HKS. They are quite easy to ruin and tearing is a fairly common problem. I myself use a K&N, but one type of foam filter that I like is the Monster Flow filter. It actually uses 2 layers, a thinner outer one, and a thicker inner. You can disassemble the filter and run the thinner outer layer for track. Not sure what website carries them though, but there is a shop near me where they are available. Downside is the biggest Ive seen them come is 3", so you would either need an adaptor to mount to your MAS, or a MAFT/VPC setup where you can just run a 3" intake pipe and filter alone.

Good replies....looks like the K&N I have on the car now is a keeper....I'm just not sure about it working at 800+cfm.

I plan on NOT running an intake pipe, just clamping the filter onto the turbo's 3" inlet...the car is using the maft in a blow through after the vented BOV/IC...I like the foam for its low profile and what I figured would be a better flow characteristic....but apparently its not as good as i thought :-(

Well that just makes me feel like crap.

I have the HKS Mega flow because it was one of the only aftermarket items that would pass Ca smog Ispec. ( The car didnt have the sotck canister when I bought it) I wonder if there is another type of filter i can put in the HKS canister instead....

Your plan sounds like a good idea, but wouldn't your turbo suck huge
amounts of hot air from around your exhaust manifold, rad and the immediate
area..... You're running an FMIC, so your SMIC location is totally empty.

I could be trippin, but what about running an intake pipe to your stk SMIC
location and draw cooler air thru a huge K&N and then into your turbo....
You said something about 800cfm, a huge K&N could probably yield you the
cfm that you need. I wouldn't go thru the stk airbox hole in the chassis,
that sucks, go under the frame if you can and mount the filter under the fender right behind your SMIC opening in your front air dam......
Hell, I could design you a custom intake that you can weld up from mandrel bent 4" tubing..... mount a huge K&N with a dry filter wrap on it and forget
about it...... You'd never have to clean your filter ever again......

Sorry man, I didn't notice in your profile that you are running a Supra SMIC....
I thought you had a FMIC, so my previous post sucks..... but that's what I'm gonna do when I get an FMIC...............

You're right...I am currently running a mk-iv sidemount, but my front mount is sitting in the back seat just dying to be installed ;).

Good point with the header/exhaust/radiator hot air issue.....but I also drive the car every day to and from work and would be worried about rain...

I wouldn't design the filter right up to the air dam, I'd kinda tuck it away under
the fender...... I would have to see a 1g, and then I could determine if it
can be done......
