I have a new evo III 16g turbo comming that i wasnt planning on getting yet, but i got too good of a deal.

FYI,

Turbocharger Mitsubishi Lancer EVO3 TD05H 16G Galant - eBay (item 270280774449 end time Oct-28-08 03:36:50 PDT)

he actually raised the price a bit, but i got it for $475 shipped plus i will get 30% cash back in 60 days, which will make my net price around $350 :)

Anyway, i currently have the usual SS 7cm gasket on my ported 14b. I hope that when i take it off it looks good and hasnt expanded at all and that i can reuse it. Even with the curved section of the turbo this gasket will still seal up ok, right?

If i see any problems with the gasket, then i may go with the 7cm OEM from jnz or wherever else i can get it the cheapest from, does this sound like the best plan of action?

Thanks!

I would recommend changing it while your doing the turbo swap. From my experience, the turbo to manifold gasket doesn't like being reused.

i just used the usual SS gasket you speak of. I had uninstalled another turbo that was using one with several thousand miles, and there was no signs of being warped.

A lot have had success with the SS gasket for years, then there are a handful showing up having the warpage and cracking issue. So who do we believe? RRE, SBR and othere putable vendors still sell this and use this when they install. I've personally used 2 with success.

So I guess if you are paranoid go with that multi layer gasket with the japanese writing on it, so it must be good.

Ok i thought that may be a good idea anyway. I have new turbo bolts and washers comming also.

So i hear some people have problems with the SS one, and go the 7cm oem route. I hear others forget both and just use high temp copper rtv to seal everything.

The oem gasket is something like ~25 and the SS can be had for less.

Whats the general consensus on this?
