Best cams for FP3052 setup

Here is what HKS 272s can do on with a 3052 and a small SMIM(Hogan).

After talking to Scott at FP if I was to switch to a set for FP2x I could gain up to 20whp but lose 100-200 rpms in spool

I can't wait to see what my 3052 does with Kelford grind 272s, the JMF race mani, 93 octane with Meth...

I'm hoping for 500whp on a DD-able tune. I haven't had time to wrench but i'll know in a few weeks. :pray::pray::pray:

You gonna use Meth? I just don't see 500 happening on pump..

I don't think i can get there on straight pump gas either. With meth and a safe tune it should be possible.

I'm running 75% meth 25% water through dual M7 nozzles and a 250psi pump (set at 200). That's a lot of methanol, hopefully it'll get the job done.

That is A LOT of methanol, isn't the usual max amount 150psi? I'm wondering if I could make 400 on the 18g with the HKS 272's on pump with meth. I've been trying to track down the RVR manifold(non-cyclone Evo III intake manifold correct?), its impossible to find.. People see a pretty decent power gain and better powerband with those I heard, and I heard they work awesome with the 3052 if I ever get there. I'm teeter tottering right now between the 3052 and keeping my 18G, the thought of trying to make 400whp on the 18G excites me. Especially because not many people run them.. atleast it seems like that.

Is it unsafe to run that much meth that your running?

The best cam depends on the setup and your goals. Do you want a drag car or a street car? Peak power isn't everything. You may gain 30whp up top and lose 40whp in the low-midrange. On a 3052 you want a cam to compliment your power curve. You don't have many options if you have no plans to upgrade your valve train. I would not run kelford 272's or fp 4r cams on stock valve train.

Being that you are just up the coast from me, I would advise not to go with those. The 2x's have REALLY steep ramp rates and cause a lot of knock on pump. Especially with our shitty 91 octane here. Darren P up in Canada has the FP1X's (last time I checked) and he HAD to switch to a meth injection setup so he could run decent timing and boost numbers because of the knock that he had ran into.

If I remember right, I believe an E85 station just opened up in SB so that is always an option if it really is a good deal on those x's.

That increase in knock may or may not have anything what so ever to do with ramp rate. Fp1X cams also bring on VE earlier where flame speed may not be easy to match piston speed. . . More duration lowers the effective compression more below peak VE anyhow. All the old n/a v8 guys agree high compression is complimented by more duration, which the fp2x cams provde. Thus, they can run non-leaded fuel with their high compression non-modern combustion chamber designs.

Frankly I pushed a small 16g to outside it's map (39+lb/min with the fp2x cams using just 93 octane. 91 octane would have reduced my boost about 2psi through the mid range. Up top I was already loosing boost enough not to worry. The real cause of knock is heat. Heat is much more a factor of boost than engine VE, ramp rate/peak lift, and/or compressor efficiency.

Lightly massaged 2g head, stock sized Supertech valves, FP Beehives, FP4R's and a 2g JMF Drag SMIM.

Any aftermarket IM will benefit him over an OEM intake with that turbo. Although I would avoid a sheet metal box type plenum. Stress concentrations and such.

Agreed on the 2g head (for low end) on a 2.0, or build a stroker and put in a 1g head to really take advantage of the flow from that turbo. If you go stroker, I'd recommend 3x's or 4r's. Either would be worth using.
