i purchase a set of evo 8 spring a while back at a good price and then purchased a set of brian crower 280 cams.

after looking at the specs of the cam @ 0.422" of lift with a 0.040 shim and an installed hieght of 1.56 that would leave me with 1.098" spring height at full lift. from what i have found out thru the forums the safe height is 1.095" and the coil bind occurs at 1.035".

now with all that being said this is going to be used on a 2.3L so a max rpm of 7500 is going to be set. would it be wise to run these springs untill i can get the cash for a set of manleys?

any help would be great. thanks

The springs should be fine. I ran into the same problem. My girlfriend bought me a set of kelford 272's for christmas, so i thought wth and tossed them in. The car was getting valve float at 4500rpm's on stock springs and retainers. So, i bought some evo springs and retainers. Still floating.. Now im running evo springs and crower retainers. Haven't ran them yet since they just came in today, but im 99% sure ill be good this time.

So, what im saying is the springs should be fine but you may have to look around for some ligher retainers if they won't work out for you.

Edit: Obviously if you have the money. Id recommend upgrading to kiggly valve springs.

I did look at the Map beehives and i was under the assumption that they were the same as stock evo springs. i have stock evo springs (semi beehive), with aluminum retainers and the evo 0.040" shims. i probably should just save for the better springs but i can think of else were i would like to spend money on before re buying parts. thanks for the help so far tho

Manley part number 22190-16 from summit racing. They are for srt4. exact same specs you need. 92 lbs at 1.5 and 237lb at 1.00 coil bind at .950
Perfect for what you need. only 90 dollars
these are what i run with 288s

thats a great find. better than over 200 i could find. thank you for the info, probably be able to oreder these next week. do you run titanium retainers or just stock dsm

i have stock. never yet to have a problem. titanium would be a better choice. i mean they are lighter so they have there advantages. not really any strength to be gained.

good to know that you are using stock. i am kind of worried about using the aluminum retainers with the 280 cams since i have heard with higher lift cams the keepers can push thru the retainers.

That is a good find. If i recall i paid 220 shipped for my manleys and ti retainers. And considering the fact that you will be insatlling them in a stroker and you know you wont be revn to the moon, the stock retainers should be fine. The ti retainers help out on hi reving applications due to the fact that hey are lighter and the lighter the valve train the higher the revs without worrying about float
