Basic MAFT Questions
What is it?
What does it do?
Where does it go?
Where does the xxxx color wire go?
Can I vent with a MAFT?
What MAF can I use?
Can I use a 2g MAFT with a 1g?
Can I use a 1g MAFT with a 2g?

Sorry guys !but am not really sure about this one. What does the MAFT really do and is it a good buy?thanks

I installed the GM MAF in "blow-thru" before upgrading turbos so I was rocking the T-25. I didn't expect any gains from it but I DID feel a difference in power and spool up was insane. I felt like there was no turbo lag at all. The car also drove WAY smother around town, that was the best part and one of the reasons the GM MAF/MAFT is my favorite modification on my car. I was very impressed with it :thumb:

There's my mini review :D

Don't close this till you hear me out...

I dont' want to spend tons of money on a blow through setup, so I was wondering: Can i buy a S-AFC and tune with that? I have a logger, so that i can see my readings, then adjust my fuel with a SAFC? Will this work? I've seen people say get a VPC, but will a SAFC work too?

-Thnx

Hey Bro,

From what i have read on here in the last 8 months, a logger and a S-AFC will work.
BUT!!! The car will probably run pig rich, and run bad. but then again i have seen post from others that have done around the same thing and report no problems. I would have to say try it to find out.

But a Blow thru would be you best choice for venting, but thats just me :)

So do some searching around and make your own desision thats all i can say.

Peace
Robs

I've done some looking and i can build a UCIP and intake pipe (because right now i have the HKS thing thats huge) for under $75. Then i found the BOv i want for dirt cheap, so its not going to cost as much as i planned. Now all i need is a cheap GM-MAFT from someone.

I just bought a maft translator locally for my 1st gen. Now, I am waiting for the lid and the directions, he hasto find them. But, I'm wondering which version I have? I found directions on the computer, But they are only for the old version.
Also, When I install this, Could I just have all the setting to 0 until I decide to tune it? If you have anything bad to say, This wouldent be the thread to post it in, Please. I'm just trying to find out the answer's to my question's.

Here are a few pictures of my translator, With the numbers if that matters.

In the lower right hand corner(Holding it so the knobs care on the bottom) it says Rev 1.7

On the left hand side, It says : (c)1999, 2001,2003 bailey engineering

v - 1 - 0
06-04

Thanks.

I was looking at a guys picture in the gallery and it looks like the MAFT just but connects its wires to the wires of the GM MAF and then the other side has a direct plug for a plug on the car. I would like to do this mainly so I could blow off to the air. If someone could tell me how hard or easy it is to hook it up and make the car run the same with it that would be great. Thanks. :thumb:

The hook-up is pretty easy - cutting your i/c piping is prob the harder part.
If venting is the ONLY reason you want to do it and your close to stock - i would
just try venting as you are. ( some people can vent with no probs )
I only say this because it sounds like your more just into the way it sounds rather then
performance gains.

Yea, don't do it just to vent... If you really want to spend money to make your bov sound better, just get a louder aftermarket one. Not to mention one that won't leak like your 2g, hah. If you plan on going performance, if it's moderate (new injectors at least) go ahead and get a new uicp with a blowthru maft so you can tune and adjust for the bigger injectors. If you plan on going all out and eventually getting a front mount, wait for the uicp cuz most people go short route instead of piping to the stock location.

I recently bought a maft used and I am not sure if it is for my 2g or not. The plug on the translator fits into my stock mas plug, but not very well, and i see only 4 metal prongs in the plug where as on the stock piece I see slots for about 6 prongs. Are there any definitive ways to tell the difference between a 1gmaft and a 2gmaft? btw it is version 2.01

A 1g maft has a square connector on it and will not hook up in any way to your 2g maft. Now as far as the diff between turbo and non-turbo I really can't say. Later, Keith.

still not sure if I have the right one or not. Can someone post pics of the plugs on their maft and specify which version and specification the maft is for?

my car is pretty much stock, except for the usual mods...k&n,downpipe,exhaust,free mods.

my question is can i use the gm maf and maft without tuning it for now? i can get a good deal on the maft and already have a 3" gm maf. i will probably tune the maft in the future with other upgrades, but will i get any issues using stock fuel pump,injectors..etc?

I have read a few post regarding this unit inlcuding the one below:

http://dsmtuners.com/forums/showthread.php?t=160611

I have an opportunity to get a 3" GM blow-thru set up and am just wondering if I'd see gains over my current set up. Currently I am running with a hardwired 2G mass and felt it made a nice difference over my old hacked 1G mass. The last couple of times at the track I ran about 22psi but would like to run 25-27psi on my evoIII turbo. I am just wondering if the GM maft will make a difference over my current set up. I know it will allow me to run the bov to atmosphere but I am looking for improved acceleration and better 1/4 times. Thanks for the help.
