What does it do?
Where does it go?
Where does the xxxx color wire go?
Can I vent with a MAFT?
What MAF can I use?
Can I use a 2g MAFT with a 1g?
Can I use a 1g MAFT with a 2g?

Sorry guys !but am not really sure about this one. What does the MAFT really do and is it a good buy?thanks

depends on the size of the MAF you buy

maybe meaning MAFS translator

MAFS = Mass Air Flow Sensor usually just called maf, and translator is used ex. when 2g maf is used with 1g engine.

Correct someone if i'm wrong.

The translator allows us DSM'er to use the GM hotwire MAF on our cars and also do some fuel tuning. You can place it anywhere in the intake tract thus allowing one to vent if placed after the BOV (blowthrough). If the only reason you're interested in one is so that you can vent, dont bother.

Just out of curiosity why not bother.... If ppl like the sound of the BOV and they can do it with out any problems why not. I have heard that it works really well with an S-AFC? I have an safc and want to vent? can any one explain why these work good together?

No you are right you can use an AFC in tandem with the MAFT quite well, but unless you're looking to remove some restriction pre-turbo, and also be able to tune for larger injectors etc... Then buying or fabricating new IC pipes or cutting the ones you have and spending $70 on couplers.... just doesn't seem like a great idea.

Thanks for the info. I deffanitly do plan on freeing up the flow pre turbo. And Its a major plus to be able to vent to the atm. with no problems. But do you know where to get an MAFT and what else is needed. Also how much is this gona cost me. :dsm:

useful link,

Stage 9. Fuel computer. Available from us is the HKS VPC, the EFI PMS, as well as Apex AFC. The easiest to install and use is the HKS VPC. Great power gain, allows full tunability of the injectors for maximum power, and rids the car of the restrictive mass air unit yeilding 20 HP gain. The PMS works well also, but require more tuning and time to setup properly. We have used all three and have had great success.

With a 16G and a decent combination of parts, either the FWD or the AWD will make a great, everyday drivable car that gets great gas mileage and outperforms almost any other car you will ecounter on the road. 300 HP is as simple as bolt on parts. And very reliable.

haha i love that

Its not so much a year range as it is specific models that had MAFs that are compatable. There is a list of all the vehicles floating around which had the MAFs we need, I know I've seen it here and on other forums so just use the search function and see what you come up with.

Obviously i have no idea about anything, and when i searched for maft, i got back 20 pages. sorry if this is repetitive but i read it everywhere and havent been able to figure it out? what the hell is a maft?

Its a fuel managment system that converts a GM signal...3" or 3.5" GM Mass Air Flow (MAFF) sensor to piggy back into the DSM. The GM MAF is put right next to the TB elbow, and meters air as it enters the throttle body. This allows 1 for much more accurate tuning, and second the ablity to VENT any BOV to the atmosphere vs recyclying the air back into the turbo intake tube. THIS ELIMINATES your stock MAF and allows for a claimed 800% more air flow. The MAFT has setings for 1g, 2g, and 3s, and allows you to adjust the fuel curve in idle, mid, wot rpm ranges, along with adjusting for injector sizes.

i was thinking about putting a 3" gm and maft setup on my car ... i was wondering if it would help my throttle response and help turbo spool up quicker ... or would it just be overkill and make me run lean ... the car is a 93 talon tsi awd A/T with stock 390 injectors and 13g ... i plan on putting a set of 450 injectors and upgrading to a 14b sometime soon.. thanks Pat
