Let's say I've got lots of spare time on my hands and want to replace the balljoints in a pair of spare rear toe arms just for fun...

How are they to be removed? Is there anything special to be done with the bottom cap, or do you just press until the cap blows off of the arm? I've seen other balljoint replacements done and it always seems to involve castellated nuts or c-clips. I see neither on this particular balljoint.

if they're like the 1g, either freeze the ball joints with a can of compressed air, or heat up the control arm around the ball joint with a torch and use a bfh to knock out the ball joint. Easiest way to install new ones is put 'em in the freezer for a few hours, then immediately install them in the control arm. They should slide right in with little effort.

Theyre not supposed to be replaced on those but im sure people do. A lot of manufacturers seem to be doing arms only now. Dont know when that started but im a fan. Use a ball joint press for the easiest way though. You can probably get one at the parts store to borrow. I beat them out of super duties with a ball peen hammer at work all the time

I just recently removed some from my colt, I just rented the ball joint press tool from O'Reilly's auto parts.
