I sat in BlackGsx2gs passenger seat the other day when he was doing some logs. I had to watch for knock through dsmlink on his laptop. He takes off and then he asks me if I hit any knock and Im like "I dont know I think I just shit my pants." This turbo pulls! spool up is crazy! Evo 16g spool up with 50trim top end what else could you ask for?

I get Full boost (1.5bar or so) around 3600-3800 in 3rd gear. It starts to spool really early then its just a nice smooth transition from going fast to hauling ass.

Old style SBR manifold hogged out

I am having some Creep issues though. Annoys the hell out of me. I think it may be time to re-design my o2 housing to dump

I personally think it's absolutely worth it. It doesn't spool nearly as fast. Even with the increase in spool time i don't have any problems just driving around town as long as im around 2000 rpms and up. My evo used to hit 20 psi at 3k. But it pulls SOOOO much harder. The evo moved, but it never floored me in my seat like this. If you want a fast spool with descent top end stick with your evo. If you don't mind some extra lag, which isn't that bad, and some killer top end then i wouldn't hesitate to say this would be a good upgrade.

They look pretty good, but with the recent price increase to $1100 I'd spend an extra $200 and get the FP3052. They'd be more appealing back at their intro price of $750.

I see spoolup about the same as the EVO III, but it doesn't kick as much in the lower boost range as the EVO did. The EVO started pulling at any boost levels, but the SCM5031 starts pulling in the higher RPMs. As soon as I hit around 18psi this thing leave the EVO in the dust.

That's not a fair comparision. Along with the 3052 you'll need a tial 44mm wastegate, new o2 housing, and i believe it's a 4" inlet (don't quote me on that) so you'd most likely need a new intake pipe and filter.

Tial 44mm = 369.00

Their o2 housing (though you could make one cheaper) = 250.00

4" intake (if needed) = 69.00

$" filter (if needed) = lets just say 30.00

Thats another 700 right there. And that isn't including oil/water lines because chances are you'll have to change them for a 50 trim anyways.

So it definately alot more than 200 bux more in the end.

But your also on higher compression than me and your using stock 1g turbo cams correct?

And i had stock cams with the evo.

blackgsx gives a very good example of the difference. The EVOIII, god bless the thing is bad ass. We all know it and love it but it can not be compared with the performance of this 50. Spool is very fast and consistent. If you plan on running under 20psi then a evoiii will be more fun but if you are building a 20psi+ base then you need this turbo. you need this turbo!

Creeping.. What boost you at? Did you get the undivided wastegate?

I've been fiddling with my Hallman MBC and it shoots up to around 1.2 bar then starts to creep as the rpms rise. I have an external 38mm tial off the o2 housing that is re-routed. The housing couldn't be divided because of the External gate, it wouldn't build any boost if it was. I think what I'm going to do is make another o2 housing but have it Dump to the atmosphere. I will just have to live with the loud dump but my boost will hopefully stay steady!

Did your turbo come originally setup of an internal gate and you removed the flapper when going to an O2-mounted gate?

As blackGSX2g mentions, an O2-mounted external is no guarantee against creep as you still have the same limitations of a sharp turn into the bypass passage and the stock internal WG hole which is nowhere near the 38mm passage your Tial is equipped with

Use the search and you'll find the stock motor can handle alot of power if your tuning is good. You can blow a stock motor on a stock turbo if your tuning sucks.

Unless your mod list is just way out of date, you would have way more fun with the EVO III. If you keep boost down, you can use it with stock fuel and IC set-up until you begin to upgrade more. Back when my car was mostly stock, I felt a HUGE increase in power switching from the t-25 at 15psi to the EVO III at 9psi. Running the EVO III will allow you to mod at whatever pace you feel comfortable and can afford.

I guess I can finally offer my insight on the BB50trim now that I have had more time tuning and playing with it. First, I have owned and boosted the e316G, SBR G50, and the PTE BB5031 all at 21 psi. Spoolup on the e316G hits quick and hits hard. I was able to reach 21 psi by 3500 rpm and she pulled all the way until redline without dropping any boost. I then proceded to switch to a dry SBR G50 (your standard 50 trim) and it packs a huge punch up top compared to the e316G. The spoolup was definitely noticeable compared to the 16G and I hit 21 psi by 4100 rpm (probably had to do with my rich tune also). low-end and mid-range power from the G50 versus the e316G is noticeable also. The e316G is perfect for fast spooling, quick power, and mid to high top end pull. Overall my experience with the G50 was OK to say the least. Now, moving onto the BB5031. First of all, I noticed an immediate difference in spoolup. With the G50, It was hard to build any boost at all while driving around town. With the BB5031, the sucker spooled just like an e316G. 21 psi is achieved by 3800 rpm and it pulls much harder (again probably the tune) than the G50/16G. Up top the turbo screams. With that in mind, I was able to achieve a trap speed of 106 with my G50 @ 21 psi on my first night ever on the track. I am going to the track on Friday and I am more than confident that I will be able to trap 110+. (cross your fingers for me). I will report back when I get back. Lastly, at a measly 16 psi (major problems with boost control, now fixed) I was able to put down 293 fwhp and 269 ft/lb of torque !!! I can't wait to go to the track and go back to the dyno to tune for 350+ fwhp.

*edit* Also, all 3 turbos were all ported and were internally gated. the e316G creeped from 21psi to 23 psi. The G50 creeped from 21 psi - 23 psi. The BB5031 spikes at 22 psi and settles to 21psi, rock solid boost after that until redline.

I'm running a stock short block (110k), a freshly rebuilt OEM head (don't ask why I didn't build it ), ARP's, and a new Mitsu HG. I've been on this setup for about 1400 miles now and she's perfect
