We got my brothers on after having to replace the rediculous "oil feed and return kit" which was obviously never test fitted to a 1g in any way shape or form.

With a huge boost leak it made 18psi 400rpm faster then my car with the same turbo (standard chra).

Would have more info, but now we are having transmission issues, so hopefully we will know more later this week.

Holly 400 rpms faster spool OMG, hmmm maybe should look into the 56 trim bb unit, sounds like it should spool like a standard 50 trim :sneaky:

I should probably note

My car: 2.5" turboback with testpipe and ported 1g o2

His car: 3" turboback with a 2.5" highflowcat (the inlet and outlet neck down from 3" to the 2.5" inlet/outlet) and unported 1g o2

So we are talking 18psi right around 3500 or so?

So is the anti surge cover a extra charge or a option? I'm directing this question to Martin or Slowboy.

The surge cover is extra. Its around $80.00 upgrade when ordering new. If you have any questions get ahold of me in a pm, email or call into the shop!!

Not to tangent too much :coy: but if you add up all the "extras" you are comming pretty close to the price of a Garrett GT hybrid offering.

Is there evidence that the non-GT wheels in the DBB CHRA is a better choice than the GT30-based turbos  I know there have been past arguments that the GT wheels flowed better overall but had to "boost the hell" outta them (i.e. non-pumpgas friendly). So are they still worth it in lieu of these new offerings? :dsm:

actually on the 50 i have never been able to get one with a ported/S cover. I can almost swear that PTE doesn't offer and S or a Ported Cover on the 50trim. I think the wheel itself is too small for the actual casting they use for that kind of cover. Now i don't know if that is something that the elves at SBR ROFL (seemed appropriate for the season) can do or not but i am yet to see one.

Aside from that you do normally have a charge of about $75-$125 depending on the turbo for the bigger S/Ported cover.

HEHE, I look more like Santa than a damn elf :) Now marko...... maybe....... but we like to just call him a midget!

The S cover we had cast, smallest we can go is 56 mm at the inducer, so that leaves out a 50 trim.

Are people having problems with surge on a 50 trim? If yes, I have not heard of any such problems yet.

MGH

I could make my T04E 50 trim surge brutally at anything over 20psi, had to turn down the gain on the boost controller to slow down the spool and it went away. It wasn't even a BB unit, So I imagine with the right supporting mods it would be pretty easy to make a BB 50 trim Surge.

this is the first time i have heard of a surge issue with the 50trim.

Guess I had the right combination of parts to make it spool quickly and the fact that I was still on the stock cams and stuff didn't allow to motor to breath well enough.

We now have some 50 trim BB CHRA's in stock and ready to ship. Buy yourself a christmas gift :)

After these are gone it may be another good wait to get more in.

Alright, after about 2 months of waiting I finally got my ball bearing 50 trim from PTE.

I am currently working on a tech article to help people in installing this turbo as the oil fittings are a bit different than the standard bearing 50 trims.

I upgraded to this turbo from an EVO III 16g, and I must say that spoolup is really close between the two turbos on my motor setup.

I got the turbo with an internal gate until my external setup arrives, so full boost on the turbo is around 13psi stock. For reference, when I floor it in 5th gear at 2k rpm, I hit 13psi just a hair before 3k rpm. As far as performance goes, the turbo really comes alive past 15psi, and keeps pulling. If you want to run lower boost levels, this turbo will not do it for you. The EVO will be the best choice from 9-15ish psi. If you want to be pushing higher levels, this turbo spools crazy fast. My EVO felt like it was working really hard to keep 20psi whereas this 50 trim hits 20ish and keeps pulling like crazy. Once I get the boost level under control I will post back with real spoolup times and performance gains instead of stock internal gate crap.

Also if you plan on running this turbo, get external gate as my turbo is set at around 13psi and will creep up to 24psi. I plan on hooking up a MBC tomorrow to see what spoolup is with the wastegate opening at around 20psi.

The ball bearing cartridge works wonderfully for spoolup and boost between gears. My turbo keeps spinning for about a minute and a half after I shut my car off :thumb:

Is anyone running a 60-1/T31 setup in BB with a T04E cover.

I'm interested to hear if anyone has any surge issues with that setup, as I may go that route, and can always opt for the T350 wheel.

Thanks,

I have the pte 3431 BB 57trim. Last one that slowboy had actually. So far am loving the turbo. I had broke a turbine blade on my bullseye 50trim so i need a new turbo quick and everyone was out of the 60trim. Talked to slowboy and they told me go for the 57 or the gt12 . They told me the latest i would spool with this turbo would be 4400 but since i am fwd i didn't really care about it that much. Let me tell you something am getting full boost at 3800 LOL same as my t04b 50trim. Right now am only boosting 14psi since am waiting on my oil line filter kit from FP to reduce the oil pressure more(no balance shafts). I'll post pics later of the setup. At 14 psi it feels like the turbo is pulling as hard as my 50trim did on 18-20psi i can't wait to turn it up more :D
