As the front balance shaft has 2 bearings, both oiled/ pressurized I have come to a problem with a block I have. The further of the bearings came out (while motor was running) and the b-shaft rubbed the hole larger (where the bearing once was). This causes even a new bearing to slid right through it. I did however test fit the closer bearing to the oil pump (the other bearing) and it went in partially. Can a machine shop bore that out to the same size as the 1st one so a larger bearing can be used?
OR
Can this be either welded shut or screwed shut... as there is a bolt hole through the block to the outside, I assume to align the bearing oil hole and cleaning. Could this be tapped out and threaded or even welded shut?
Any ideas would be great as this is a perfect block other then this and its a shame to not be able to use it. I read through old posts and found some guy wrapped the bearing (the too small one) with electrical tape and shoved it in there, now im NOT even considering this as an option but wanted to see if any new methods have come up.

Thanks

Yea, the electrical tape idea is really out there, I couldn't even imagine that would work. Welding could be a good option, but it would probably be difficult to get a good angle to weld the holes. You could try this option:

Make sure to either replace your rear (oil pump) balance shaft with the stubby shaft, or cut the weights off and weld the hole shut.

I drove a 6mm dowel pin into the oil port, but like mentioned in the liked post, dont go in to far

Yea you were the newest of the people I've seen post successful results doing that method. Definately easier than trying to pound in new bearings (or OS bearings in his case) while you are underneath the car in an awkward position.

Well see at this point the block is out and sitting on my workbench... just a spare at this point. I test fitted the old bearing from the closer to the oil pump and it went on 1/2 way, i bet a little force and it would go all the way/enough... However I think id prefer to put a bolt in that hole and yes im aware not too far but JUST enough to seal it off. Im sure this would seal that oil hole better then the bearing would due to the deep groves created by the bad bearing falling out and b-shaft rubbing. thanks for all your help so far

gsxtacy... hows it all working out for you with it bolted off?

thanks
