I'm new here to DSM Tuners. ( posted a long ways back, but owned a lot of 3/S's. I have a VR-4 currently that I've had since 03. ) Anyways, I picked up a 98k mile Talon TSI AWD 4 bolt LSD car in immaculate condition. When I picked it up the ECU was fried and the car wouldn't start.

I got it home and swapped in a spare ECU i had and it fired up instantly. I drove it around the neighborhood and then began to pull the motor and everything to swap it to a manual and do some upgrades. ( EvoIII everything. Turbo, 02, manifold. ) Just a decent street car.

Anyways, I was pulling stuff apart to do the timing belt and oil pump when I pulled the pan and found this sitting at the bottom of it.

This is where it was supposed to be...

I've inspected everything over and over and over, and the oil came out clean, the motor ran fine when it was in the car. No idea what oil pressure was as the car just has notches, it probably should have been higher. I'll pull the caps off and inspect the bearings later. After looking over everything I saw no damage to the crack, rods, nothing.

Anyone ever see this happen before?

I'm so used to the 6G72 and have never had to deal with nonsense like this.

Almost forgot. This is the car..

man same thing happened to me, mine sounded like a buzz saw. on the other side i would change the oil several times to try and clean it out. also a magnetic oil plug would help get them shavings out. i cleaned mine out the best i could but the damage was done. the bearings were toast when i pulled the motor.

oh my bad ,motor is out the car. :coy: so i guess i rebuild is in the making?

Nothing looks damaged, so unless I find something, I'll be using this motor. It ran in the car, and I didn't hear any noises...

thats good it did not hurt it to bad. mine was bad. pretty much had to rebuild every thing in the bottom. when i finished the bottom. i thought why put an old head on a built bottom. so then i built the head. then i could not get all the metal out of the oil cooler so had to buy one of them too.

Nice clean lookin car:thumb:... you should just get rid of them balance shafts:D

I absolutely am without a doubt. The kit is sitting in front of me right now.. Can anyone tell me if I actually need to put a bearing back in that spot? Since the stubby shaft doesn't go through that. I'm not sure if there is an oiling hole in the block there or not. Anyone know?

If not, that's fantastic. Saves me from pounding it out.

u can put a bearing in there to help raise oil pressure. you put a stock one in there but you rotate it so the holes don't match up.

I've never seen such a fresh Talon and immaculate paint is that original?

Yup. It's all original save for the black top. The black was repainted and cleared since it had started to fade.

The back spoiler has a little bit of clear coming up, but the car is one of the cleanest 1G's I've ever seen. I'll be keeping it for a very long time.

Had that happen in my 7 bolt..removed the balance shafts just to have the oil pump completely fail 10 miles later. If that is the rear balance shaft i would recommend inspecting the oil pump for any play or damage to the gears. From experience it sucks to put your car back together nad have it break not even 15 minutes later..

I'm replacing the oil pump. Without that bearing your pump was seeing some serious amounts of excessive play on that shaft causing the pump to wear prematurely.

That is for sure. And i was to stubborn or hard headed to check it before hand. Its my fault i know i don't deny that at all LOL. Just figured id toss that in there so you didn't over look it.
